There may be times when you need to edit a student’s grade in the Moodle gradebook. For example, you have a student who did not complete an assignment by the due date and you entered a score of zero (0). Several weeks have passed and you allow the student to make up the work and improve the score.

Navigate to your Moodle course.

From the left Navigation panel, click Grades to access the Grader report.

From the top right side of the page, click Turn editing on to edit the Grader report. This is not the same setting you click when you’re editing your course.

Locate the student and the graded item (e.g., assignment, quiz, forum) you want to override.

Step-by-step method:

Click Edit grade (gear icon) in the applicable cell.

Check the box next to Overridden.

In the Final grade field, enter the new grade.

Click Continue.

Click Save changes. The gradebook cell will change color to indicate the grade has been overridden.

Quick grading method:

In the visible box within the cell, type the new grade and press Enter on your keyboard. The Overridden checkbox will automatically be selected and the gradebook cell will change color to indicate the grade has been overridden.

When finished editing grades in the Moodle gradebook, scroll to the far left and click Turn editing off.
