This article shows students how to a Text to Speech function in Chrome and Firefox

Google Chrome Browser

If you don’t have the free Google Chrome browser, click here to install it.

Open the Google Chrome browser.

To the right of the extension, click Add to Chrome.

Click Add extension in the pop-up window.

Click the X to close the pop-up window. A megaphone icon will be added to the top right of the Chrome address bar.

Log into Genius and then access one of your courses.

Use your mouse to highlight a portion of text.

After highlighting the text, click the megaphone icon at the top right of the browser to hear the text read aloud.

To pause or stop the audio, click the pause or stop button below the megaphone icon.

Mozilla Firefox Browser

If you don’t have the free Mozilla Firefox browser, click here to install it.

Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.

In the Search box, type text to speech.

Click the item titled, Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader.

Click Add to Firefox.

Click Add in the pop-up window.

Click Okay in the pop-up window.

Log into Genius and then access one of your courses.

Use your mouse to highlight a portion of text.

After highlighting the text, click the megaphone icon at the top right of the browser to hear the text read aloud.

To pause or stop the audio, click the pause or stop button below the megaphone icon.

If desired, click the gear icon to edit the settings.

Select your preferred settings.
