With the H5P Interactive Content plugin in Moodle, you can create interactive content such as Interactive Videos, Question Sets, Drag and Drop Questions, and much more. From your Moodle course home page, you click Add an activity or resource and then select H5P Interactive Content. This will automatically place the activity in your Moodle gradebook, even if the activity isn’t one that is graded.

When using the H5P Interactive Content plugin, the most recent attempt and grade is the grade that is recorded in the gradebook. For that reason, activities created with the H5P plugin are not recommended for major assignments or exams. Instead, these activities can be used to engage students in your materials and provide creative ways for students to gain practice in understanding your content.

NOTE: Most importantly, the grades from any H5P activities DO NOT transfer to the Teacher Grade Report or the District Data Report since these activities have no Due date associated with them; however, the H5P grade WILL get calculated in the cumulative, running grade on the student's Dashboard in Genius.

Remember, Online Education Advisors rely on the District Data Report when pulling quarter grades for report cards. Additionally, H5P activities DO NOT transfer to the Genius gradebook. The grades in Moodle and Genius will never match up if you are placing graded H5P activities on your course home page using either the H5P Core Integration version or the H5P Interactive Content plugin.

You will need to follow three steps to capture the H5P activity grades when using either the H5P Core Integration version or the H5P Interactive Content plugin on your course home page.

Step 1: Create a placeholder assignment with the same point value as the H5P activity

Navigate to your Moodle course. Create a placeholder assignment for the H5P activity by clicking Add an activity or resource at the bottom of your course topic and selecting Assignment.

Assignment Name: Name the placeholder assignment the same as the H5P activity and add "Grade" to the end of the name (e.g., DNA Vocabulary Practice Grade).

Availability: Set a Due date for the placeholder assignment that falls within the correct grading period. Since students will not be submitting anything to this assignment, you don't need to enable Allow submissions from.

Submission types: Uncheck File submissions so that both options are unchecked. Students will not be turning anything in since this is a placeholder for the H5P activity grades.

Grade settings:

~ Maximum grade: Make sure the number of points for Maximum grade are the same as the points for the H5P activity.

~ Grade category: Select the correct Grade category for the placeholder assignment that matches the H5P Grade category and aligns with your Due date under Availability.

VERY IMPORTANT: Access your Moodle gradebook and capture the grades from the H5P activity for each student AFTER the Due date and BEFORE you remove and exclude the grades. When excluding a graded item, you need to remove any grades for the item or the grades will impact the students' overall grades in Moodle and Genius.

Step 2: Transfer grades to the placeholder assignment

After you create the placeholder assignment, you will need to transfer the H5P activity grades for each student to the placeholder assignment. Add the grade and any appropriate feedback, which will show in the Moodle and Genius gradebooks.

Access your Moodle gradebook. From the left Navigation panel, click Grades.

From the View tab, click the Single view tab.

Under the Select grade item... drop-down list, select the placeholder assignment you created.

Under the Override column, click All to select all students in your course. This will allow you to edit the Grade and Feedback fields for the placeholder assignment.

For each student, enter the H5P activity grade and any relevant feedback.

Once finished adding each student's grades and feedback, scroll to the top or bottom of the page and click Save.

Click Continue.

Click Continue a second time.

Step 3: Remove students’ grades from the H5P activity and excluding the H5P activity

Under the Select grade item... drop-down list, select the H5P activity from which you need to remove grades and exclude.

Under the Override column, click All to select all students in your course. This will allow you to edit the Grade fields for the placeholder assignment.

VERY IMPORTANT: Delete each student's grade under the Grade column. The Grade field must remain blank.

Under the Exclude column, click All to select all students in your course.

From the top or bottom of the page, click Save.

Click Continue.

Click Continue a second time.

Here is how your Moodle gradebook will look after completing all the steps.

~ You will have two H5P activities: one is the actual H5P activity students completed and the other one is the H5P placeholder assignment that captures and transmits grades to Genius.

~ The tan color in the gradebook indicates grades were overridden.

~ Any graded items that have been excluded will have the word Excluded appear in red font followed by a dash. The dash indicates the grade field is blank, which is how it should appear.
