Audio recordings personalize your course and can be used for your course introduction, topic introductions, or to augment quiz and assignment instructions. You can add an audio recording in Moodle anywhere there is a text editor, such as labels, book chapters (pages), quiz and assignment instructions, and topic descriptions.

For this demonstration, we're going to insert an audio recording stored in a WIU Google Drive folder into the Announcements section at the top of the course. Remember to first click Turn editing on from the top right side of your course home page.

Create an audio recording and add it to your course folder in your WIU Google Drive. We’re going to use an audio recording that we created earlier.

Double click the audio file in your course folder in WIU Google Drive so the audio file opens in a browser window.

From the top right of the page, click More actions (1) and then click Open in new window (2).

Click More actions (1) a second time and then click Embed item... (2).

If you see the message, “Only the owner and explicitly shared collaborators have access” when the Embed item window opens, you need to change the permissions of your Google Drive folder or students will not be able to listen to the audio file in your course.

Copy the entire embed code by highlighting all the text and using Ctrl + C (PC) or Cmd + C (Mac) to copy the text.

Navigate to your Moodle course. To edit the Announcements section, click Edit (1) and then click Edit settings (2).

Click the Toolbar Toggle button to expand the text editor toolbar.

In the content area, add text to introduce the audio recording to your students, explain the relevance to your content (if applicable), and include the audio recording’s length. Below your introductory text, place the cursor (1) where you want to insert the audio recording, and click Edit HTML source (2) from the text editor toolbar.

Paste the audio file’s embed code below your introductory text by using Ctrl + V (PC) or Cmd + V (Mac).

To reduce the size of the audio player on the course home page, change the width to 440 and the height to 80 (1), and then click Update (2). Continue editing the page as needed.

Click Save and return to course or Save and display.

The audio file will now be displayed on the course home page under Announcements.
