Content guidelines for users

The Weedmaps platform allows users to post content and contribute reviews of their personal experiences with products, brands, and retailers.

Our community values this content because they're a reliable source of information about the cannabis business and its products. To help the community, we're providing guidelines on posting helpful and informative content.

Reviews should be unbiased and objective.

If you're a potential, current, or former employee of a dispensary, delivery service, doctor, or brand, or if you have a relationship with anyone associated with a business listed on Weedmaps, we ask that you refrain from posting content about that business or any competing businesses.

Businesses should never ask customers to write positive reviews on their behalf. Content intended to market products or services will be removed.

Don't repost content from other sites, users, or businesses.

Suppose there's content that outlines the same experience or is identical to other content already posted. In such a case, all content will be removed unless we determine that the content reflects the personal experiences of multiple people (as opposed to reposts of prior complaints).

Weedmaps is a community of cannabis enthusiasts helping to drive safe, convenient access for consumers and driving cannabis legalization forward in ways that adhere to our core values. Ultimately we want our platform to offer helpful guidance and a feeling of comfortability.

If posted content is disrespectful or irrelevant to the shopping experience, we'll remove it to keep Weedmaps a safe place rooted in the community. As the locals say, "Be Nice or Leave!"

Don't use content owned by other sites, users, or businesses.

It's Weedmaps' policy, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, to disable, eliminate access to, or terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe or are often charged with infringing the intellectual property rights of others.

Let's keep it PG, friends.

Content that contains nudity or is explicitly sexual in nature will be removed.

Weedmaps has users from all different backgrounds, so let's play nice.

There's no place on our platform for offensive content such as slurs, hate speech, inappropriate language, threats/harassment, or other displays of bigotry.

Don't publicize people's personal information or post anyone's full name or other specific/identifiable descriptors that could reveal the person's identity.

We'd love to hear what you thought about the service and ambiance at a dispensary or the taste and effect of a particular product, not what you've seen online or heard from friends or co-workers.

As stated above, we'll remove reviews that promote other businesses. We'll also remove reviews that contain political observations, comments about a specific employee (unrelated to their level of service), and complaints that the business or brand is complying with applicable laws (e.g., charging required taxes, enforcing state-mandated return/exchange policies, refusing out-of-state medical recommendations in a state that doesn't allow reciprocity).

Reviews describing second-hand experiences will be removed. Remember, the goal is to provide helpful and relevant guidance for other customers!

We don't know about you, but our memories get a little fuzzy after a long time. Timely reviews are the most helpful and valuable—if you post a review about an experience that took place more than 60 days ago, it'll be removed.

You can only leave one review per retailer every 30 days to reduce spam. You can edit a previously written review to update your experience with a business if needed.

Users may not post reviews without a Weedmaps account with a verified email address.

If you're asked to verify your account but didn't receive an email, please ensure your email address is up-to-date in your user profile.
