How do I set up a federated directory?

Guide to integration Worka with Microsoft Entra service to reduce user administration.

Updated over 2 months ago

Federated directory is an optional integration for Worka whereby responsibility for adding, removing and updating user accounts is delegated to an existing Microsoft directory service.

This is common in larger organisations where the administrative overhead of maintaining leavers and joiners across both internal and 3rd-party solutions would be onerous.

Note: Federation & HRIS system integration is an advanced feature. Contact help@worka.com for assistance.

Worka options for federated users

Work Team provides an enterprise integration for Microsoft Entra federated directory of users (not groups). Once configured this means that Worka Team admins will not have to manually add users to Worka but instead rely on the federated directory to populate new users, update existing users and remove users who have left the organisation.

Configuring federated directory for Microsoft Entra

Worka Team supports the most populate enterprise directory solution; Microsoft Entra. To setup open the Worka Team account settings using the cog icon at the top right of the page and select 'Federated directory'

Click 'Generate token', choose and expiration duration that aligns with your corporate standard and save the token to a temporary location, e.g notepad

Setting up Microsoft Entra

Provide the token previously generated to your IT directory administrator and advise them to following the detailed instructions in the attached setup document.

Once configured provisioning should happen on approximately a 40minute cycle. Successful integration will be indicated through the connection status in Worka People view.

If you don't see updates as per the Worka People view check the Entra provisioning logs for updates or contact help@worka.com for assistance.
