There are several reasons why you may be required to resubmit a case to E-Verify, and it can be challenging to know when and why this is necessary.
To help streamline the process, we have made the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button. This button will appear on the I-9 form of a staff member when there is a need to resubmit to E-Verify.
As you can see in the notice box it will let you know that it is Unable to submit to E-Verify, to the right of that it will give bullets for the reasons it is was not able to be submitted (which we will go over in the next section) and finally the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button (which we will go over in the last section of this article).
Reasons that it was not submitted to E-Verify:
These are the primary reasons that a case would not go to E-Verify and would cause the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button to appear.
The “Skip E-Verify” feature was turned from Off to On.
Once you have confirmed the “Skip E-Verify” toggle has been turned from On to Off, you can return to the Form I-9 for that staff member and click the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button.
The staff member already had an open E-Verify case.
The first thing you will need to do is close the open E-Verify case. You can find this by looking through your E-Verify cases (via the E-Verify Summary on your dashboard or by going to Onboarding > E-Verify)
Once you have closed the open case, you can go back to your current I-9 and click the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button.
The staff member provided a receipt for the document.
For staff who have this as their reason, you can follow this article to repair these issues.
You will not need to use the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button for this reason.
The staff member indicated they are awaiting ssn.
This reason can be managed when the staff edits their profile, unchecks awaiting ssn, and adds ssn to save their profile - PDF gets rerendered with updated SSN.
You will not need to use the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button for this reason.
How to resubmit to E-Verify:
After checking and correcting the reason the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button appeared, if there is still a need to click on the “Resubmit to E-Verify” button, return to the staff member's Form I-9.
Click on “Resubmit to E-Verify”.
This will update this notice box, you will see it shift from: Draft > Awaiting submission to E-Verify > to its final status.
If there were no errors in the submission, it should move to Closed - Authorized.
In the case that the same issue or one of the issues from the reasons listed above is what is preventing the E-Verify case from closing, you follow the steps above to find what you need to correct.
Otherwise the Case Status will indicate what you will need to do next. You can review this article on Managing E-Verify Cases in WorkBright on how to manage this.
