Why Won’t My Document Upload?

If your document says ‘uploading’ and is not progressing, and you are not seeing any error messages, check your wi-fi connection. It’s recommended that you’re connected to a strong Wi-Fi while uploading your documents.

What are best practices for troubleshooting errors in Section 1?

  • Check your wifi connection to ensure it is working. Using cellular data alone can cause delays in uploading images.

  • Ensure that the full name of the issuing authority field contains the full state name and official authority name. There cannot be abbreviations

  • Check that the file size is not too large. (Over 20mb)

  • Check that the file type is acceptable for upload. The file type should be PNG, HEIC, PDF, JPEG, GIF, or JPG.

  • Ensure the photo is clear, in focus, free of glare, not blurry, and against a dark background.

  • If the document information fields do not populate after uploading the document(s), then you will manually input the information.

  • Ensure you click on the Submit button.

  • Ensure the length of your document number is correct.

Common Error Messages and What They Mean

File Too Big

This message will appear if the document you are trying to upload exceeds the 20MB limit. Please try a smaller file size, retaking the picture, or compressing the image.

File Type Not Allowed

This message appears when the image you are tying to upload is a file type that we do not accept. Please try retaking the picture or changing the file type, and then reupload.

Oops, There Was A Problem With Your Form

This error message appears when there is a problem somewhere in the form itself. To see what the problem is, and how to fix it, you will need to scroll down a bit and look for the Red error message that specifies the problem.

Here are some examples:

You can see in this example that an image of the back of the document was not included, so you would need to upload the back of the document before trying to proceed.

In this example, you can see that the employee only entered ‘CA’ for the issuing authority. You can see in the messaging that it must contain the full state name, no abbreviations.

Follow the steps in the red instructions to correct the error, and then try to proceed again.

Non-Citizen Authorized To Work Error

If you are a non-citizen authorized to work, you will be asked to provide ONE of the following:

  • A-Number/USCIS Number

  • Form I-94 Admission Number

  • Foreign Passport Number

If you attempt ot enter more than one of these, you will see the red error message below. Please only select one option, then continue.
