1. Access Payroll Settings
From the Left Navigation Menu, click your Company Name
Select Payroll Settings
Click the pencil icon next to Company Payroll to begin editing
2. General Configuration
📝 Custom Payroll Name
Give your payroll rule a name, if needed. Leave “Set As Default Rule” checked unless you’re managing multiple configurations.
🍽️ Override Meal Payment
Default behavior: Meals are unpaid (counted as negative time)
Optional: Check this box if you need to make occasional meal breaks paid
Most users won't need this feature — only enable it if your organization allows flexible paid meal rules.
3. Shift Splitting
🕛 Shifts to be Split Based On:
Date of Punch-In
Custom Workday
This setting matters only for overnight shifts that span midnight.
Example:
Punch-In at 7:00 PM, Clock-Out at 7:00 AM
Custom Workday: Splits into 2 shifts
→ 7:00 PM–12:00 AM and 12:00 AM–7:00 AMDate of Punch-In: One shift
→ 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Choose what best aligns with your reporting needs and payroll policy.
4. Overtime Rules
Click Overtime Rules to configure:
Weekly Overtime Default: 40 hours/week
Can be edited or disabled
Work Week Start Day: Choose the appropriate day (e.g. Sunday, Monday, or your specific payroll cycle start)
Daily Overtime / Double Time (if applicable):
Check the box to unlock additional fields for daily rulesCalifornia’s 7-Day Rule:
Check this box if applicable
On the 7th consecutive day in a workweek:
Hours 1–8 = Overtime
Hours 8+ = Double time
Optionally, send alerts to mobile users when they reach Day 7
5. Meal Break Preferences
Click the pencil icon under Meal Break Preferences to edit.
✔️ Paid Meal Breaks
Check only if meals are paid
Decide if paid meals should count toward:
Regular time
Overtime
Double time
⚠️ You should know whether paid meal breaks do or do not count toward accruals for your organization.
⏱️ Meal Break Duration
Determines how long an employee is locked out after starting a meal break
Set to 0 minutes if no lockout is needed
🚨 Compliance: Meal Infractions
Used to enforce state laws (e.g. California):
CA law requires meal break to start before 5th hour of work, unless shift is under 6 hours
The system will flag:
Late meal starts
Missing meal breaks (if shift > 6 hours)
🔔 Mobile Notifications
Meal Start Reminder:
Send alert to begin meal break after X hours into the shift
Meal End Reminder:
Send alert to end meal break after X minutes into the meal
Auto-End Meal Break:
Automatically end the meal break after a defined time
→ Check this box to enable
✅ Save Your Settings
When you're finished, click Submit to save all changes.
