You can add your own reading to any assignment in Writable by editing a prompt.

Edit an Assignment to add a Reading:

1. Go to 'My Assignments' and click on the assignment you would like to add reading to and click 'Edit'.

2. Click the 'Prompt will appear here...' button at the top of an assignment.

3. Then click 'Edit'.

4. Next, click 'Readings' below the video link box, then click 'Add Reading'. Select whether you'd like to paste your reading into a doc or if you'd like to upload a PDF.

8. If you choose to upload a PDF, you'll select a PDF from your computer.

9. Enter a title for the reading. You can preview your PDF by clicking 'Preview'.

9. If you decide to paste a reading, select 'Custom'.

10. If you choose to paste your reading, you'll need to copy and paste your reading into the text box and add a title. (Use the toolbar to format and style your text.) Then, select 'Done'.

Helpful Hints:

  • You can preview your reading by clicking 'Preview' in the upper right corner.
  • If you want to delete the reading, click the 'Trash' icon.
  • You can add multiple readings to a prompt using the same process. When you’re ready, click 'Done'. The prompt you just created will be published to students by default.

10. Once you assign it, students will see the reading next to the prompt and their writing.

Editing an existing prompt:

1. Go to 'My Assignments' and click on the assignment you would like to add reading to and click 'Edit'.

2. Click the 'Prompt will appear here...' button at the top of an assignment.

3. Scroll to find a prompt you’d like to use and click 'Edit & Select for Students'.

3. Next, click 'Readings' below the prompt in the 'Advanced Options' section.

4. Follow steps 4-10 listed above to add a reading.
