How do I export or print students' writing?

Export or print student writing to Google Drive, CSV, PDF, & more.

In this article, you will learn how to export or print student writing. Exporting and printing student writing is helpful when creating a student portfolio of work, or gathering evidence of student growth and progress.

Export or Print from your Teacher Dashboard

Recommended for exporting and printing from a single assignment.

1. Select an assignment from the 'My Assignments' page.

2. Click any class section.

3. From the Students view, click the 'Export Data' icon in the top-right corner of the table.

4. Choose 'More Export Options'.

5. On the Export screen, verify the assignment and classes you'd like to export using the dropdown menus. You can select more than one class at a time.

6. Then, click 'Export' to open a menu of export options. Select one of the following choices:

  • Export to Google Drive: Export writing to Google Docs.

  • Export Student Writing to PDF: Export submitted writing along with teacher feedback.

❗ Note: The options "Export to CSV, Canvas, or Schoology" will only export scores, not submitted student writing.

6. (Optional) If you chose Google Drive, choose 'Export writing to Google Docs' and decide if you want scores printed alongside the student writing.

Click 'Export' to create a Google Doc with all student submissions, that you can now print from within Google Docs.


Export or Print from 'Report'

Recommended for exporting and printing from 2 different assignments. This is helpful to show student growth!

1. Click 'Report' at the top of the page and then choose the 'Growth Report'.

2. Use the filters for Genre, Grade, Teacher, and Assignment to choose what you'd like to export. To export writing from a single assignment, leave the second dropdown blank. To export writing from two different assignments, choose the first assignment and the second in the "from" and "to" fields.

Tip! Name your assignments so they are easy to find. For these assignments, we've titled them "Pre-Assessment" and "Post-Assessment" so it is clear they are being used to show writing growth.

3. Click 'Export' to open a menu of export options.

Select one of the following choices:

  • Export to Google Drive: Export writing to Google Docs.

  • Export Student Writing to PDF: Export submitted writing along with teacher feedback and scores.

❗ Note: The options "Export to CSV, Canvas, or Schoology" will only export scores, not submitted student writing.

4. (Optional) If you chose Google Drive, choose 'Export writing to Google Docs' and decide if you want scores printed alongside the student writing.

Click 'Export' to create a Google Doc with all student submissions, that you can now print from within Google Docs.
