Writable's lesson plans in Insights & Recommendations leverage generative AI and writing expertise to support you in introducing assignments, guiding revision, and more. Let's take a look at where to find these custom resources and how to incorporate them into your instruction.

Before Assigning

Once you have copied or created an assignment in Writable, you can find a custom Kickoff Lesson Plan on the Manage Assignment page.

  1. To find your Kickoff Lesson plan, click on an assignment from 'My Assignments'.

  2. Before you have assigned to any classes, the kickoff plan will be at the bottom of your page.

  3. Click on a "View skill instruction" heading to expand specific lesson directions and details.

  4. In each skill instruction section you will see the objective, focus skills, direct instruction, guided practice, and how to apply to student writing.

  5. Towards the bottom of the plan you will also see suggested comments personalized for your students. Note that these will be more custom once you have assigned to a class.

  6. Lastly you will see a full rubric review and summary at the bottom of the plan to help you with communicating your rubric expectations.

On the Assignment Dashboard

After you have assigned to your classes you can find the Kickoff Lesson Plan on the Assignment Dashboard under the Insights & Recommendations 'Get Started' tab.

When students start submitting their writing the Guide Revision tab will generate lesson plans tailored to your students' performance.

  1. Click on an assignment from 'My Assignments' and then choose a class.

  2. On the 'Students' tab you will see Insights & Recommendations. The kickoff lesson plan will be available on the 'Get Started' tab.

  3. Click 'Guide Revisions' to see a short summary of the skills your students need support with. Click "View lesson plan".

  4. Check which students are on watch for skills by hovering next to the "# students on watch" icon.

  5. Explore the lesson plan and its resources by clicking the headings to expand instructional guidance.

  6. Click "View personalized comments" to review individual comments for students. Click the send icon to send the comment to your student and begin conferencing with them directly.

  7. At the bottom of the plan you will see a full rubric review and summary at the bottom of the plan to help you with communicating your rubric expectations.

  8. If you'd like to download and print the lesson plan, click the download icon in the top right corner of the window.
