1. Credible sources

Writing of papers appreciates the use of Credible Sources. How to find such sources:

  • Use online scholarly databases such as Jstor, and Google Scholar which provide access to the latest researches in hundreds of areas (list of other scholarly databases)

  • Newspapers and magazines are also rich sources of information about what is happening now. Consider browsing through the New York Times, TIME, and The Wall Street Journal (US), The Guardian (UK).

  • Do not forget appropriate books on the topic; there are lots of them on googlebooks.com, and some of them are in free access there. While citing such kind of a source, you can choose a category of the printed book, as Google books provides its readers with information about publishing agency, number of pages, etc. (TIP: Different chapters from Google Books could be available in different browsers)

  • Pay attention to the date when the work was published. The most credible and up-to-date ones are those printed within the last five years.

When some sources are hardly accessible (require login, etc.), you may use the following helpful sources:

  • BugMeNot - service shares Logins and passwords for free.

  • Library Genesis - here you will find thousands of books with the ability to upload them for free.

  • Sci-Hub (try to use different domains https://sci-hub.mu/; https://sci-hub.tw/) - here, you will find academic articles by inserting the title of the article or its DOI.

  • Search for appropriate source in Citation Machine using keyword or phrase. You can use this resource for citation formatting as well.

2. Life hacks how to google necessary information

For example, you need to find different information about "climate changes":

  • Climate changes google books can be typed for finding good books about the topic.

  • Climate changes pdf will present mostly scholarly articles on the topic.

  • Climate changes statistics can be used for searching for some facts about the problem.

  • Climate changes science/scholar is the right way to find reliable sources on the topic required.

  • Climate changes graphs – Search – Pictures present you already-made graphs and visual statistics on the topic of Climate change; you can use them as well by citing all the necessary information under the picture captured.

  • Here is additional info on different search commands in Google.

3. Issues with file formats

Please pay particular attention to the file formats. Ensure you can open any files the Customer gives you.

  • Possible formats are:
    .pages = regular .doc
    .numbers = regular .xls
    .key = regular .pptx

As an example, use the following link to convert .pages to .doc - https://cloudconvert.com/pages-to-doc

If you don’t have the necessary tools to open the file, please use google! If you are still facing the problem, you should contact the Support team for further steps.

Also, you can use https://www.onlineocr.net/ to copy text from screenshots (which is very useful for scanned pdfs that can’t be copied).

4. Tips for effective paraphrase

In academic writing, plagiarism is unacceptable. To avoid it, you should paraphrase the source and cite it appropriately. Try these steps to write an effective paraphrase

  • Step 1: Read a paragraph from an article that you find interesting or that you are using to write a paper.

  • Step 2: Make notes to yourself about the most important idea or ideas presented in the paragraph (make these notes in point form, rather than in sentences)

  • Step 3: Put the article away and, using only your point-form notes, explain the most important idea(s) in your paper.

5. How to deal with unclear instructions:

  • Try googling a sentence or a part of it from instructions put in quotation marks (they may be available online)

  • If the instructions or files sent by the customer contain course code (ENG101 or SOC205) and college name, on college website you can often find course syllabus that lists the topics studied and the materials like articles and textbooks used in this course

  • Ask the customer for clarification. Some customers do answer the messages in the chat.

6. How to make your writing more diverse

Try to use more diverse language by incorporating synonyms to your writing:

  • Word Hippo - use it when you need to find some word or word-combination relating to a specific discipline/context (there are Synonyms, Antonyms, Definitions, Rhymes, Sentences, etc.).

  • Thesaurus - another good resource to find both synonyms and antonyms.
