In addition to capturing weather information from The National Weather Service in the US and Environment Canada in Canada, CSWeather also captures other data from a variety of services including now playing information from XPoNential. Once captured, CSWeather will send the now playing data to CSRDS for use in the selected RDS data casting devices and services.

When the CSRDS data casting module was installed, CSWeather was also installed and the CSWeather icon should be on the desktop or in the start menu items.

Note: CSWeather will run on all versions of windows and may need to install some drivers for older versions of windows that may be older than existing versions or not required for newer versions. As a result, the installation may warn about installing older versions or display an error when trying to register some older versions. Always select “keep” to keep the newer versions of the drivers, and select “Ignore” for all other windows, including Windows 7 and Vista desktop warnings.

Configuration for XPoNential

If CSWeather is already being used to capture the local weather forecast, we can add the XPoNential capture to the existing instance of CSWeather. If we are not using CSWeather, we can configure an instance of CSWeather to capture the XPoNential now playing data as follows:

  1. If CSWeather is already running, right click the icon in the system tray and select “restore”. If CSWeather is not running, click the CSWeather icon to start the program.
  2. When the CSWeather window opens, select “Properties” from the tools menu.
  3. If CSWeather is configured to capture local weather for stations other than the XPoNential station, click “Create New Configuration” to create a separate XPoNential instance of CSWeather.
  4. Ensure the “Installed In” directory is where the Center Stage Live software is installed. If not, use the “Browse” button to select the Center Stage Live installation directory.
  5. Select the desired station in the “Stations” list to use the XPoNential now playing information.
  6. Enter the URL in the URL area in the middle of the window. The URL will be in the following format: http://xpn.org/xpo_rad/myxponentialradiov2.php?date=YYYY-MM-DD
  7. After entering the URL, click “Add”.
  8. Click “Update” to save the changes, then click “Continue” to close the properties window.

XPoNential Now Playing Capture

When the properties window is closed, CSWeather will automatically start the capture within a few seconds or we can force the first capture by selecting “Update Forecast” from the File menu, or by pressing F5.

Note: If this is a new instance of CSWeather, we will need to create a shortcut for this instance and add it to the Startup items.

Create the Shortcut

Follow this sequence:

  1. Right click on the Windows desktop.
  2. Select “New” and “Shortcut”.
  3. Browse to the Center Stage Live installation directory and select “CSWeather.exe”.
  4. When the “Create Shortcut” window appears, enter the configuration ID as shown in the “Configuration ID” area of the CSWeather properties. (As shown in image 1, we add a space and CSW_016.SYS to the end of the command line after the CSWeather.exe.)
  5. Click “Next” and change the name of the shortcut to refer to the XPoNential service and station.
  6. When completed, copy the shortcut to the startup items.
