In addition to scheduling copy to the on-air studio, RDS/RBDS/HD Radio and automation systems, CSScheduler can be configured to send copy to the web site. When used, the CSScheduler window will have various Web options allowing the user to decide what copy goes where.
When entering an item for the web site, we enter the page as the reference name or select the page from the blue dropdown list. We then select where the copy is to be used, The Web Site, the On-Air Studio or both. We may also add an audio file, graphic and URL link to another web site.
Audio files are added using the Cart# area. Once entered, the Cart# label will be replaced by a Cart Number Command Button. We may use this command button to play the audio to ensure we have the correct audio and that it is in the proper location.
Graphic files are added using the “Camera” icon. This will open the Graphic window where we can browse and view the graphic. Again, this feature allows us to view the graphic and check the size to ensure it fits on the web page properly.
A link to another page or web site can be added in the URL area.
Of course we have all of the scheduling capabilities for web pages as we have for any other CSScheduler copy. (Station, Date, Day of Week and Time of Day)
The second part of web updating is a special program called CSPostIt that runs 24/7 monitoring the CSScheduler data and updating the web site. For CSRDS users, CSPostIt would normally run on the same computer as CSRDS.
To update your existing Center Stage Live system to include Web Posting, we will replace our CSScheduler program with the new Version 7.0 CSScheduler program. (Available from Arctic Palm Technology Inc)
Once we have copied the new CStage.exe over the existing CStage.exe program, we run the new version and perform the following configuration updates.
- Ensure you have Administration rights on the workstation.
- Setting the Program to accept Web content.
a. From the Tools Menu, select Center Stage Access Control
b. Check Allow Updates to Web Site
c. Click Update
3. Defining our Web Pages
a. From the Tools Menu, Select Web Pages
b. Add web pages as provided by the Web Master. These names will be used to place items on the proper pages and MUST be an exact match. Adding the names here will populate the blue dropdown box allowing us to pick the reference name ensuring an exact match.
c. Pages are added by entering the name and pressing Tab. Pages can be deleted by double clicking the name in the list.
d. Add any classification entries you would like to use for further identifying the article. Your web master may use these classifications to search for various articles.
e. Click Update to update the list
Note: In version 7.0 and higher there is a default list of page names and classifications. You may use the defaults or use this window to add or remove items as necessary
4. Configuring Web Logins
a. From the Tools Menu, select Web Login.
b. Select the Station from the Dropdown list.
c. Enter the Login Information. (URL, Username and Password)
d. Enter the web site folder where the CSScheduler files are to be saved. These should be dedicated to CSScheduler folders as the update program will delete XML, MEDIA and Graphic files not used in CSScheduler
e. Use the Test Command to ensure the login information is correct and we can access the necessary web folders.
f. If OK, be sure to use the Save command to save the login information.
Note: This information is only necessary for stations we will be posting. Stations not receiving any CSScheduler postings do not require a login.
The second program to be configured is CSPostIt. This program monitors the CSScheduler content and posts information to the web site as scheduled. For CSRDS users, install the program on the CSRDS computer or any computer that is running all of the time and is not likely to have a user close the program.
To install CSPostIt, copy the CSPostIt.exe file (available from Arctic Palm Technology Inc) to the Center Stage Installation directory and run the CSPostIt setup.exe (available from Arctic Palm Technology Inc)
Once installed, run the program and select Properties from the Tools Menu to configure the module.
Enter the full path or use the browse command to enter the installation directory. This is the location where Center Stage Live was installed. This directory contains all of the programs files and data that CSPostIt will monitor.
Temporary Working Directory
Enter the full path or use the browse command to enter the location of the temporary working directory. This is the directory where CSPostIt will save its log files and use as a holding directory for data prior to transferring to the web site.
Send Media Files From
Enter the full path or use the browse command to enter the location where the media files will be saved. This should be a specific directory where the production department will save the media files for transfer to the web site.
Download Media Files To
Enter the path or use the browse command to enter the location where SportsCaster audio files are to be saved from the CSRemote application.
Select the station or stations CSPostIt is to update. If not already entered in CSScheduler you will need to add the stations web login information. CSPostIt will post updates to all checked stations.
Highlight the station in the list to enter the login for that station.
Enter the URL or IP address for the selected stations ftp site.
Enter the login name for the selected stations ftp site.
Enter the password and confirm the entry. Case counts so be sure upper and lower characters are correct.
Enter the folder on the web site where the CSPostit XML files are to be uploaded. This directory should be dedicated to the CSPostIt files as CSPostIt will delete all XML files from this directory not in the schedule.
Enter the folder on the web site where the CSPostIt media files are to be uploaded. This directory should be dedicated to the CSPostIt files as CSPostIt will delete all media files from this directory not in the schedule.
Enter the folder on the web site where the CSPostIt graphic files are to be uploaded. This directory should be dedicated to the CSPostIt files as CSPostIt will delete all XML files from this directory not in the schedule.
Once the login information has been entered, click the Test button to verify the configuration. CSPostIt will use the settings to log into the site and verify the connections.
If the test connects to the web site and verifies properly, click Update Login to save the login settings.
When all settings are correct, click Update to save the settings.
**Note: If login settings have been entered using CSScheduler and the installation directory is correct and accessible, the login information will be available when the station is selected. We should verify the connection using the Test Command to ensure this computer has proper access to the web site. If we cannot access the site, we need to check Internet connections and firewall settings.
