Learning to type is already a skill that takes time, repetitive practice, and patience to become proficient. Even though the keyboard may be exactly the same for a classroom of students, we understand that each student learns differently and one size does not fit all. Yeti Academy has a way for you to make adjustments so that students may learn at their best rates possible.

How do to change the Words Per Minute (WPM) and Accuracy goals for one student?

Before making a change, consult your Typing Report, to see how well your student has done. You can find this report by clicking on Reports in the left panel then Typing Reports at the top.

Now, look at the results your student has attained in the purple columns, compared to what the student was expected to to in the gold column.

If you find a student is working at least 5 WPM ahead or behind what is expected, then you can make an adjustment for that student.

First, log into your Yeti Academy (YA) account as a school administrator or teacher. Click on Classes in the left panel:

In your list of classrooms that will appear, click on the one in which you find the student for whom you'd like to do an adjustment. Click directly on that student's name.

You will be taken to a page with the student's name directly on top. This ensures that you are making changes to the correct account. Once you're sure you have the right student, click Typing Accommodations to make those particular changes.

Once you select Typing Accommodations, you can select either the Benchmarks or Settings.

Benchmarks

Under the Benchmarks tab, you can fill in the requirements you'd like students in that grade to meet in order to achieve 1, 2 or 3 stars as well as how many WPM in order to earn a Bolt Badge (an encouragement for quick fingers). Should you select Require minimum WPM for stars, students will need to achieve that many WPM in order to receive their stars. Remember, stars are achieved by the highest common agreed upon number of stars and WPM. For example, in the screenshot above, if a student types at 16 WPM with 80% accuracy, they will earn 2 stars as that is the highest met requirement for both columns.

Settings

Under the Settings tab, you can customize your students' typing experience.

  • Require Correct Letter: If checked, the correct letter must be typed in order for a student to progress through the lesson.

  • Allow Backspace: If checked, the student will be able to backspace an incorrectly typed key.

  • Hide On-Screen Keyboard: If checked, the on-screen keyboard that shows finger placement will be hidden from the students' interface by default.

  • Lock On-Screen Keyboard: If checked, the student will not be able to adjust whether or not they see the on-screen keyboard.
