Setting Up Tax Collection in Stripe: Adding Registrations
Before Stripe can automatically collect tax on your payments, you need to add your tax registrations in the Stripe Dashboard. This tells Stripe where your business is registered to collect tax and enables automatic tax collection on your payments.
Step 1: Go to Tax Registrations in your Stripe Dashboard
Log in to your Stripe account and navigate to Tax > Registrations in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Click "Add a registration"
On the Registrations page, click the Add a registration button.
Step 3: Click choose a location
Choose the state where you would like to begin tax collection
Step 4: Select how to register
Yonda recommends that in this case, you select "I'm already registered", even if this is not yet the case - as this is the simplest way to enable tax collection
Step 5: Choose when to start collecting
If you need to begin collecting and remitting sales tax immediately, then you should select "Start collecting immediately" - Yonda recommends this approach for new registrations
If you have agreed with Yonda that you will set your tax office registration date to a date in the future, select "Schedule tax collection" and choose your date.
Step 6: Save and repeat for each state
Click Add to save. Repeat Steps 2–5 for each state where you hold / will hold a registration. Once saved, each state will appear in your Registrations list and Stripe will automatically collect tax from the date you have specified.
