If you import goods into the UK, HMRC issues two documents each month that you'll need for your UK VAT return: your import VAT certificate (C79) and, if you use postponed VAT accounting, your postponed import VAT statement. Here's how to download both and get them to Yonda.

1. Sign in to HMRC online services

Go to Sign in to HMRC online services and sign in with your Government Gateway user ID and password.

Select Government Gateway, then click Continue.

Enter your Government Gateway user ID and password, then click Sign in.

When asked how you'd like to receive an access code, select Text message.

Enter the 6-digit code sent to your phone and click Continue.

2. Open your Customs Declaration Service (CDS) account

From your Business tax account, find the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) section and click Manage import duties and VAT accounts.

3. Download your import VAT certificate (C79)

Click View import VAT certificates (C79).

Find the relevant filing period (e.g. October–December for Q4) and click the PDF link to download it.

Certificates are usually available after the 10th working day of each month. Certificates older than 6 months won't be listed here — HMRC requires a separate certificate request for those.

4. Download your postponed import VAT statement (if applicable)

Click View postponed import VAT statements.

Find the relevant filing period and download the PDF. A period will show "No statement" if you had no postponed VAT accounting activity that month.

5. Upload your documents to the Yonda Portal

Once you've downloaded the relevant C79 certificate(s) and postponed VAT statement(s), upload the PDFs to the Yonda Portal as soon as possible so they can be included in your UK VAT return.

To upload your data, you can follow these quick steps:

  1. Log in to your account🔑:Login here

  2. Go to the Data Upload section📂:Upload here

  3. Upload Your Excel File📎
