Enabling / Disabling Call Screening on Android

YouMail has created a new way to stop robocallers in their tracks! If you have an Android device and a paid YouMail plan, you can now enable a call screen that requires unknown callers to enter certain digits to ring through.

Notes:

  • This feature only screens unknown callers. All uploaded YouMail contacts and known spammers via our Directory will not receive this screening and will be handled correctly.

  • The caller must successfully enter the required digits to ring through. Otherwise, the call will disconnect.

  • Call screening can only be updated (enabled / disabled) via the app itself. It cannot be updated via the web, nor can a support agent adjust this for you.

How it works

  • Upon enabling this feature, any caller who is not a contact, a known spammer, or someone on your blocklist will receive the following message:

"The person you are calling is protected by YouMail. To proceed, press [provided two-digit number]."

  • If the caller successfully dials the digits provided, the call will ring through.

  • If the caller does not dial the digits provided, the call will disconnect. Each subsequent call will repeat the above process.

If the caller enters the wrong digits, the prompt will repeat. "That is not a valid option. To proceed, press [two-digit number]."

How to enable this feature via the app

  • Open the YouMail app and tap the Protection icon.

  • Toggle on 'Screen Unknown Callers'.

  • Tap the three dots in the top-right corner and hit 'Protection Settings'.

  • Toggle on 'Live Caller Name' (optional)

To Disable the setting

  • Open the YouMail app and tap the Protection icon.

  • Toggle OFF 'Screen Unknown Callers'.

    When off, the toggle button will be greyed out. Additionally, you can disable screening whilst leaving call protection on. Or, you can disable call protection in its entirety, which also disables the call screening feature.
