Uploading Contacts on Your Android

Uploading your contacts to YouMail ensures we can greet your callers by name with our Smart Greeting, and uploading allows us to recognize which callers are important to you and block the ones that are not.

Notes:

  • Contacts can be edited via the app or the online account. Additionally, if you edit the contact from your phone's contact list and resync your contacts, the updates will be brought forward to YouMail.

  • Duplicate contacts (contacts with the same phone number) can cause issues with the greeting played, so please make sure to clear any repeated contacts.

  • Unfortunately, if a contact calls an Extra Line and they have a custom greeting assigned, the custom greeting does not apply (by design).

Upload Contacts

  • When initially installing the YouMail app on your Android device, the app will prompt you to allow permission for YouMail to access your contacts. Doing so will make it easier to upload your contacts to the app.

If you have skipped this step:

Grant permission to contacts by opening up your Android settings > selecting Apps > locating YouMail > selecting Permissions > selecting Contacts > selecting Allow.

If you have previously uploaded contacts and need to sync the remaining contacts:

Open the app > select the menu in the top left corner > select Settings >select Contacts > then select Upload Contacts.

  • Open the YouMail app and select the Menu (☰) icon in the top left corner of the screen.
