If you're new to ZehMizeh, you might find yourself confused by some of the terms and phrases we use on the site. So we assembled this glossary where you can find the definition for anything you're not familiar with.

A

Accept Milestone

When a client accepts a milestone proposal that a freelancer sends in a project-based project, he's accepting the freelancer's terms - both what will be worked on and how much he'll be paid for it.

He is also charged right then the amount that the freelancer asked for. ZMZ then holds the money while the freelancer works. This way, the freelancer doesn't have to worry about not getting paid. For more on this, see this article.

Account Type

There are two types of freelancer accounts - the regular Freelancer account, and the Agency account. The only difference is how many service providers are using the account: "Freelancers" have one user, while an "Agency" is shared by two or more.

Admin

The administration, or ZehMizeh staff.

Agency Account

An agency account is a type of freelancer account, where the only difference is that it's shared by two or more members of a team. That means that a client may be speaking to more than one user as the project progresses.

Approved

This is any freelancer who's been given permission by ZehMizeh to start working. (Clients are automatically approved.)

B

Bank Account Details

Client accounts from users in the US can pay freelancers from their bank accounts, (ACH payments). These are the user's details, which can't be seen by any other users.

Banners

We use this word to refer to the long boxes on a page that contain introductory information, either to a project, a freelancer, or a dispute.

Budget

This is how much the client is willing to pay, either as a flat fee for the completion of the entire project or as an hourly rate.

C

Cancel Submission

Before a client pays for an hours submission, a freelancer can cancel. This closes the submission permanently and the client will not be able to pay it. This does not mean the freelancer is not entitled to be paid for the hours described in that submission; he just need to make a new submission.

Client

A client on ZehMizeh is anyone who's posting projects, hiring freelancers, and paying them for their services.

Close Project

Closing the project means ending it - no more work would be done and no more invoices would be paid.

Closed

A closed project is one that has ended. No more milestones or hour submissions can be added to this project, no payments can be made, and no work can be done.

Courses and Certifications

This box on the freelancer's profile displays what courses they completed and what certifications they received. These are meant to demonstrate their expertise and training in the services they're providing on ZehMizeh.

Credit Card Details

The client's credit card payment details. These details aren't visible to any other users.

Current Hires

This is a list of all of the freelancers the client is currently doing projects with. By clicking on a freelancer’s thumbnail, you can see his profile and which active projects you are engaged in together.

D

Dashboard Page

This page is the user's base of operations, where he can find stats and recent updates.

Delivery Time

A broad estimate of how long the freelancer has to complete the project. The client chooses from: '1 Week or Less', '1 Week-3 Months', and '3 Months or More'.

Dispute

When a freelancer believes they are owed money that the client is refusing to pay, or a client believes he does not owe money that the freelancer is asking for, they can submit a dispute about the milestone in question. ZMZ staff will receive it and attempt to mediate a solution.

Many of our policies on disputes are listed in the Help Center, and users can usually determine how ZMZ staff will settle the issue by reading through those.

Disputes leave a bad taste in the mouth, so we always recommend that users try to resolve conflicts themselves before appealing to the admin.

Due Dates

Projects and milestones can both have dates that mark when they're due. The ZMZ policy is that any delay beyond these dates does not entitle a user to a dispute, and that these due dates represent a non-binding plan. It is still a good idea to make good on any such commitment.

E

Edit Submission

Before the client pays for an hours submission, a freelancer can edit the details, including - the title of the submission, how many hours he worked, and the submission description.

Education

This box on the freelancer's profile displays what schools they attended.

Expected Hours Required

This is how long the client estimates the project will take. This is just his estimate, not a commitment. The options given include: 'Short Project (<10 Projects)', 'Medium Project (>10 Hours)', and 'Ongoing Project'.

F

Find Freelancers Page

This page is where clients can find freelancers to invite to their projects.

Find Projects Page

This page is where freelancers can find their next new project.

Freelancer

Someone on ZehMizeh who provides services for payment. These services are provided as short-term gigs, not long-term hires.

G

General Inquiry

For requests or questions that are not addressed in the Help Center, users can submit a question to the staff on the Help page, called a General Inquiry.

H

Headline

The headline is meant to be the space where the freelancer introduces what they do professionally. When clients are doing a freelancer search, they'll see it displayed just below the freelancer's name as a personal subtitle or tagline.

The simplest ways headline would be the name of the freelancer's work title, (“Ghostwriter” or “Accountant”). Users could also list their main freelancing skills, (“Photoshop | Adobe | FinalCut Pro”). Or, a freelancer could share a slogan that makes it clear what they do, (“Editing You Can Count On”)

Help Page

This page is for customer support. If a user has a question that they can't find an answer to in the Help Center, they can submit it to ZMZ staff here through a General Inquiry. If they're having disagreement about a payment with another user, they can submit a dispute.

Hourly Projects

Clients can design a project to use an hourly payment structure, which has no set budget for the completion of the project. In these projects, the freelancer will bill the client as he goes, sending invoices for the hours he's worked, along with the work that's been produced in those hours. The client commits to a specific hourly rate when he hires the freelancer.

Hourly Rate

How much a freelancer charges for a typical hour of work, if they have a standard fee.

Hours Submission

These are invoices freelancers send, stating how much time they recently spent working on the project and what they did. They should also share the work they completed when they submit these invoices.

I

Inbox

Your unread messages collected, found on the Messages page.

Intro Box

Many pages on ZMZ include these boxes at the top that contain basic information. These are found on both user profile pages and project posts.

Invite

Clients can invite freelancers to specific projects that they've already posted. An invite doesn't give the freelancer the assignment; instead, it alerts them to the project and let's them know you'd be interested in seeing them submit a proposal.

L

Language

The language the user speaks. If listed in a project's details, this is the language the client needs the freelancer to be able to speak to work together.

M

Messages Page

From this page, a user can access all communications he's involved in from all projects.

Milestone

In a project-based project, the freelancer and client can break the whole project down into segments, with a section of the budget assigned to each of those segments. These segments are called "milestones."

A project-based project can be divided into as many milestones as the users want, or as few as one. For projects with just one milestone, the freelancer completes the entire project in exchange for a one-time payment of the entire project budget.

Milestone Description

A detailed description of what is going to be delivered in this milestone.

"Milestone Payment Deposited" Status

The client has accepted the milestone proposal and deposited the money the freelancer was asking for. ZMZ will now hold the money until the work is submitted. When the client confirms that they received the work, the money is released to the freelancer.

"Milestone Proposal Pending" Status

The client has received the milestone proposal but has not yet accepted it. The freelancer should not start working while the milestone is in this status.

My Projects Page

This page lists all of a user's projects, past and present, at all stages of development.

N

Next Payout Total

This amount has been delivered and will be transferred to your bank account today. (You can find this figure on your Transactions page.)

O

Ongoing Project

A project that the client expects will continue for many weeks or months.

P

"Paid" Status

This milestone or hours submission has been paid by the client. The freelancer's fee has already been sent on its way.

Pay for Hours

Click here to pay for any hour submissions that the freelancer has sent. Be sure to consistently communicate with your freelancer and see what he's working on during these hours. For more on this, see this article.

Payment Details

These are the details of the freelancer's bank account(s) that his fees will be sent to. These are not visible to any other user.

Payment in Transit

This is the money that your clients have been charged that is still being processed by Stripe. See the Payouts tab on the Transactions page for an estimated arrival date.

Payment Structure

This refers to the way that a client has structured the payment model of a project. There are two payment structure options on ZehMizeh - the "Project-Based" model and the "Hourly" model.

  • Project-Based

    • These projects are for clients who know how much they would like to pay the freelancer for the entire project.

    • In these projects, clients can commit to the entire budget at once, or in stages. Freelancers and clients agree on how much each stage of the project is worth. When a freelancer finishes a piece of the project, (called a "milestone"), the client releases another piece of the budget until it's completely paid.

      • The client is charged whatever amount he commits to by ZMZ before the freelancer starts working. This way, the client can't back out of payment.

  • Hourly

    • Clients can also design a project to use an hourly payment structure, which has no set budget for completion. In these projects, the freelancer will bill the client as he goes, sending invoices for the hours he's worked, along with the work that's been produced in those hours. The client commits to a specific hourly rate when he hires the freelancer.

Portfolio

This is a collection of the freelancer's previous work, put on display to demonstrate the freelancer's skills and style.

Posted Projects

These are projects that have been posted but have no freelancer assigned to them yet. They may or may not have project proposals submitted to them.

Preferred Freelancer Location

The client's preference for where any prospective freelancers would be from. Freelancers can always send proposals to project posts, even when they're outside the client's preferred location.

Profile Page

This is where a user can oversee all of their personal information, (both the info that's displayed for other users to see and that which isn't).

Profile Photo

This is a photo that users share of themselves, their logo, or something else, to communicate personality and create more of a personal connection on the site. Sharing a photo is optional.

Project

A project is a gig, or a short-term work assignment, that a freelancer could complete on ZehMizeh in exchange for payment. All of the work on ZMZ is referred to as "projects" because they are by definition temporary roles; there are no long-term hires on ZMZ.

Project Description

This is the client's longest section to describe the project in their own words.

Project Drafts

These are unpublished project posts.

Project-Based Projects

These projects are for clients who know how much they would like to pay the freelancer for the entire project.

In these projects, clients can commit to the entire budget at once, or in stages. Freelancers and clients agree on how much each stage of the project is worth. When a freelancer finishes a piece of the project, (called a "milestone"), the client releases another piece of the budget until it's completely paid.

The client is charged whatever amount he commits to by ZMZ before the freelancer starts working. This way, the client can't back out of payment.

Projects in Progress

This is a list of the active projects still in progress which the client has already hired a freelancer for.

Project Invites

When a client wants you to submit a proposal to a project they've posted, they send you an invite to let you know. This does not mean you have to submit a proposal, and it doesn't mean the project will automatically go to you if you do.

Proposals

A project proposal is like a job application that a freelancer submits to a project post. The main difference is that the freelancer can propose an arrangement different from what the client posted, (ie a different fee or hourly rate).

Propose New Milestone

In project-based projects, freelancers don't get paid hourly but for the completion of milestones. A milestone is a section of a project that the freelancer and client have assigned a certain percentage of the overall budget. This section could be as big or as small as they want.... it could be 1% of the budget, or it could be 100%.

The freelancer can suggest a certain fee for a certain part of the project by submitting a milestone proposal. If the client accepts the proposal, that means he's committed to the terms the freelancer submitted - that he will pay what the freelancer offered in exchange for finishing that segment of the project.

When the client accepts the proposal, he is immediately charged the value he promised.

R

Ratings

This is the average of all of the ratings a user has received from users they've worked with. After every project, a client rates his experience with a freelancer - and vice versa - on a scale from 1-5 stars, (5 being the best).

Registered

This is any user who's filled out the basic registration information. If their account is still under review, they won't be able to work, but they'll be able to begin to fill out their profile and register for their Stripe account.

Reviews

At the end of every project, freelancers and clients leave comments about their experience working with each other.

"Revisions Requested" Status

The client reviewed the submitted work and found issues with it. Presuming that the issues are true and within reason, the freelancer should address them and re-submit.

S

Save

This button allows clients to add freelancer profiles to their list of Saved Profiles on their dashboard, so the client can revisit the profile for later consideration; OR, this button allows freelancers to save project posts to their Saved projects list on their My Projects page.

Saved

These are any freelancer profiles that the clients have saved for later consideration. They may or may not have worked together before.

Saved Profiles

These are the freelancer profiles that the client has saved for later consideration.

Search Filters

When a freelancer is searching for new projects or when a client is looking for new freelancers, they can use filters to make their search results more effective. The filters add parameters to the search and leave out irrelevant information.

Sent Proposals

These are proposals the freelancer has already submitted to posted projects that have not yet been accepted or declined.

Skill Categories

The broader categories of services that can be delivered on ZMZ. All project posts have to at least include one skill category so freelancers can find posts that are relevant to them.

Skills

The specific services that freelancers can deliver on ZMZ. Unlike a skill category, (like Writing), skills are more precisely defined, (like "blog-writing" or "ad copy").

Stripe

Stripe is ZehMizeh's payment-delivery service. They're the ones who know everything there is to know about delivering money internationally, foreign banking systems, and secure delivery. Check out their website for more.

Submission Number

All hours submissions come with a submission number. This number indicates what order the submissions came in.

T

Templates

A client can save time filling out similar project posts by using templates. A template is like a draft of a project post with many details filled in that a client can go back to again and again.

Total Hours Worked

The number of hours that the freelancer has worked on an hourly project up until this point.

Transactions Page

This page collects the user's transaction history and activity.

Two-Factor Authentication/6-Digit Code

Two-Factor authentication is a method of confirming that a registering user is real and that the email information they’ve entered is correct. In this process, users will be sent a 6-digit code to their email address. Enter each digit in the appropriate box on the authentication page to complete registration.

U

Under Review

This is a temporary status before a freelancer is approved. The ZehMizeh staff first does their best to consider the submitted information to verify it as real and that the user has professional experience in the skills they claim to (with informal, open resources on the internet). The staff is also filtering for users who may have been removed from ZMZ in the past, for whatever reason.

W

"Waiting for Payment" Status

This means that hours have been submitted but the client hasn't accepted and paid them yet.

"Waiting for Release" Status

The work has been completed and submitted, but the client has not yet accepted it.
