To check messages, click that "Messages" option to open the Messages page. You'll find a list of all of the message threads you've opened on the site, listed based on how recently they were updated.
To find a specific conversation, you can use the search bar at the top of this list. Type in the name of the project or the name of the user you're communicating with to find the thread in question.
