How to Create Formulas in the Estimate Module

J
Written by Jorge Arias Silva

Formulas calculate quantities automatically instead of relying on manual entries. This keeps values consistent and reduces the need for extra input fields.

Note: The formula in this article is only an example. It can be adjusted based on how your team calculates material quantities.

How formulas work

A formula uses one or more element values to calculate a result automatically. For example:

  • Wall Length (20) × Wall Height (10) = 200 Sq. Ft

This means the estimate does not need a separate manual field for total wall square footage — the formula calculates it from the inputs you already have.

Setting it up

  1. Open the estimate and enter Edit Mode

  2. Add the input elements you need — e.g., Wall Length and Wall Height

  3. Click + Add Element and set the type to Formula

  4. Build the formula using the input elements — e.g., Wall Length × Wall Height

  5. Click Save

Test the result by changing one of the input values — the formula field should recalculate automatically.

Video Overview

In this video, you will see how formulas can be used in the estimate to calculate values automatically. We will review an example that uses Wall Length and Wall Height to calculate Wall Square Feet.

What Happens Next

Once saved, the formula updates automatically when the input values change. This makes the estimate easier to manage and reduces manual calculations.
