ZipLeads Communities lets members filter courses directly from the Learning page using Topic, Difficulty and Language. Members can also sort courses by Title, Newest or Oldest.
These filters use course details you set in the course builder. This guide explains how course filters work, how to set the values they need, and how members use them inside Communities.
Course access vs. course filters
Filters help members organise and find courses they can already see. They don't give access to restricted courses. They also don't override Community, course, offer or enrolment permissions.
What is course filtering in Communities?
Course filters in Communities use the Language, Difficulty and Topic values given to a course. Members can use them to narrow the courses shown in a Community's 'Learning' tab.
Members don't have to scroll through a growing course library. They can combine filters to focus on the subject, skill level or language they want. They can also sort the results to find courses faster.
Key benefits of course filters in Communities
As your course library grows, filters give members a faster way to find their way around. Accurate course details also help creators keep learning content organised.
Faster course discovery: Members can narrow large course libraries to what's relevant to them.
More relevant learning: Find courses by Topic, Difficulty and Language.
Flexible filtering: Combine several filters for a more focused course list.
Better course organisation: Creators manage these details directly from course settings.
Flexible sorting: Sort courses by Title, Newest or Oldest.
Quick reset: Members can clear active filters and go back to the full list of courses available to them.
Available course filters and sorting options
The Learning page uses course details to decide which filter choices members see. Clear, accurate values help members find the right learning content.
Control | Purpose |
Topic | Filters courses by the subject or category given to the course. |
Difficulty | Helps members find courses that suit their experience level. |
Language | Filters courses by the language given to the course. |
Title | Sorts available courses by their course titles. |
Newest | Shows newer courses first. |
Oldest | Shows older courses first. |
How course filters work in Communities
Community members use the 'Learning' tab to browse the courses available to them. Filters narrow that list based on the details attached to each course.
The member opens the Community's 'Learning' tab.
The member selects one or more Topic, Difficulty or Language values.
Courses that match the selected values stay in the results.
The member can choose a sort option to order those results.
The member can select 'Reset all' to clear the active filters.
Course tags and Community filters
Community filters depend on the details given to each course. Language, Difficulty and Topic decide how courses can be narrowed from the Learning page.
Language
Language is the main language used in the course. Setting the right language helps members find content they can easily follow.
Difficulty
Difficulty shows the experience level the course is aimed at. Choose the option that best matches the knowledge or skill a learner needs.
Topic
Topic groups courses by their main subject. Consistent Topic values are especially useful if your Community offers courses across several areas.
How to set up course filters for Communities
Accurate course details make sure members can find a course through the right Community filters. Set the course values first, save your changes, then check what members see on the Learning page.
Step 1: Open the course
These settings are managed in each course, so start with the course you want members to find through Community filters.
Go to Memberships → Courses.
Open the course you want to set up.
Select Settings.
Step 2: Find Course tags
The Course tags area holds the details used by the course filters:
Language
Difficulty
Topic
Step 3: Assign the course values
Choose values that truly describe the course. Consistent values make filtering more useful and stop courses showing up under the wrong filters.
Select the right 'Language'.
Select the right 'Difficulty'.
Select the right 'Topic'.
Check the values before saving.
Step 4: Save the course
Saving applies the selected values to the course. Where you can, use the same values across related courses so members get predictable results.
Step 5: Check the course in the Community
Testing from the member's Learning page confirms the course shows under the right filters and still follows the correct access rules.
Open the relevant Community.
Select 'Learning'.
Confirm the course is visible to a member who should have access.
Apply the relevant Topic, Difficulty or Language filter.
Confirm the course appears in the results.
Test the sorting options if needed.
Filtering courses as a Community member
Filters let members choose how they browse learning content without changing enrolment or permissions. They can use several filters together to narrow the course list step by step.
Open the relevant Community.
Click 'Learning'.
Choose one or more Topic, Difficulty or Language values.
Look through the matching courses.
Use 'Sort' to order the results by Title, Newest or Oldest.
Select 'Reset all' when you want to clear the active filters.
Troubleshooting course filters in Communities
Most filter issues come from missing course details, course access restrictions or the filters currently selected. Check these before changing the course itself.
Issue | What to check |
A filter doesn't show the expected course | Open the course Settings and confirm the right Language, Difficulty or Topic value is set and saved. |
The member can't see the course at all | Check the course's Community visibility and access settings. Filters don't override access restrictions. |
Too few courses are showing | Review all active filters. Combining several filters can narrow the results a lot. |
The course shows under the wrong filter | Check the values set on the course and fix any that are wrong. |
The member wants to see all courses again | Select Reset all to clear the active filters. |
A newly set value isn't showing | Save the course, refresh the Community Learning page, and make sure you're testing the right course and Community. |
