Prevent domain connection conflicts

Learn how ZipLeads stops a domain from being connected to conflicting products, such as Funnels, Websites, WordPress and Client Portals, and how to fix a conflict when one is found.

Before a domain is connected to a new product, ZipLeads checks whether the domain is already used by another supported product type. If it finds a conflict, the connection is blocked and you'll see a detailed error message.

This safeguard helps prevent accidental disruptions to live Funnels, Websites, WordPress installations, Client Portals and other connected products.

How domain conflict detection works

When you connect a domain to a product, ZipLeads runs a conflict check before it validates your DNS records.

If the domain is already connected to another supported product type, ZipLeads:

  • Blocks the new connection attempt

  • Shows which product is currently using the domain

  • Displays troubleshooting guidance

  • Gives you a direct link to the existing connection, where possible

For example, if a domain is already connected to a Funnel, trying to connect it to a Client Portal may be blocked if the existing setup would break.

Supported product types

Conflict detection currently applies to these product types:

  • Funnel

  • Website

  • Store

  • Blog

  • Webinar

  • WordPress

  • Client Portal

  • Branded Domain

Email products are not included in these conflict checks.

Resolving domain conflicts

When ZipLeads finds a domain connection conflict, the error message explains what needs to be fixed. Where available, the error also gives you an action to open your domain settings, troubleshooting guidance, or another way to resolve the issue.

DNS record conflicts

ZipLeads can also block a domain connection when it finds conflicting A, AAAA or CAA records.

The error shows which DNS record type is affected and explains what you need to change at your DNS provider before you try connecting the domain again.

Common DNS conflicts include:

  • A record conflicts: Multiple A records conflict with the DNS records needed for the connection.

  • AAAA record conflicts: IPv6 records conflict with the DNS records needed for the connection.

  • CAA record conflicts: Existing CAA records stop the required SSL certificate from being issued.

For detailed steps to fix these issues, see Troubleshooting Guide: Connecting Your Domain.

Conflicts in your account

If the conflicting product is in your account, the error message may include a direct link to the existing domain connection.

Use the link to:

  • Review the current setup

  • Disconnect the existing product if appropriate

  • Choose a different domain if needed

Conflicts in another account

If the domain is already in use in a different ZipLeads account:

  • The connection will still be blocked

  • A direct link will not appear

  • The error message will explain the issue so you can look into it further. If you need help, contact the ZipLeads support team.

Important notes

  • Conflict checks happen before DNS validation checks.

  • Domain conflicts are detected across other ZipLeads accounts, not just your own.

  • Existing domain connections are not changed automatically.

  • Email products do not trigger product-type conflict checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if I try to connect a domain that's already in use?

ZipLeads blocks the connection attempt and shows an error message explaining the conflict.

Q: Can I override the conflict warning?

No. You need to resolve the existing conflict before you can continue.

Q: Does this affect existing domain connections?

No. Existing connections stay as they are unless you change them yourself.

Q: Why do some errors include a “here” link?

The link appears when the conflicting product is in your account, so you can go straight to the relevant domain settings.

Q: Why is there no link for some conflicts?

If the conflict is in a different ZipLeads account, ZipLeads does not show a direct link. Contact the ZipLeads support team if you need help.

Q: Are email products included in conflict detection?
