This feature lets you create your own email and text notifications for invoicing instead of using the system's default ones. You can also choose which notifications to send and add details like customer information and the invoice amount.
What is the invoice notification customisation feature?
This feature lets you customise the email and SMS notifications for invoicing. First, you can create templates for your invoice notifications. This gives you more control over how they look. You can customise the font, colours and overall design to match your branding.
Second, you can include specific invoice details in your notifications. For example, you can include the customer's name and address, the invoice total, the due date and the invoice URL. This helps customers quickly see what they owe and when it's due, which means fewer follow-up emails or calls.
Finally, you can customise notifications for both the customer receiving the invoice and the team member in your account who sends it. This means you can set up different templates and notifications for customers and for your team. It's handy when you deal with lots of customers or have several users in your account.
Who is this feature built for?
This feature is useful for any business that uses invoicing to manage its financial transactions. It's especially helpful if you want to control the look and feel of your invoice notifications and match them to your branding. It's also great if you want to include specific invoice details to keep your customers informed and up to date.
What are the benefits of this feature?
The benefits of this feature include:
Customisation: You can customise your invoice notifications to match your branding. This helps you look more professional and consistent.
Exclusion of notifications: You can choose which notifications to send. This cuts down on unnecessary notifications for your customers.
Clarity: Including specific invoice details helps customers quickly understand what they owe and when it's due. This can mean fewer follow-up emails or calls and happier customers.
Differentiation: You can create different templates and notifications for customers and for users in your account. This can help your invoicing stand out from competitors and build customer loyalty.

What types of notifications are included, and how do I configure them?
Types of notifications:
The table below shows the different types of notifications sent to the customer and to users in your account:
Configure “Payment Schedule Received”
Go to Payments → Invoices & Estimates → Settings.
Open Notifications → Customer Notifications.
Find Payment Schedule Received and toggle it On/Off as needed.
Click Manage next to the Email or SMS template to edit the content.
Save your template.
Important: You can use payment-schedule-related custom fields in the template. If the invoice doesn't have a payment schedule, those fields will show as empty.
Payment Schedule Received: Sent when an invoice includes an instalment or payment schedule. You can edit the Email/SMS template or turn the notification off completely.
How do I configure these notifications?
If you haven't already built invoice notification templates for SMS and email, go to Marketing > Emails > Templates to build your email templates. Then go to Marketing > Templates to build your SMS templates.
Next, go to Payments > Invoices > Gear Icon and choose a template for each notification type.
After clicking settings, expand the Notifications tab in the left navigation menu. Here you'll find Customer Notifications and Team Notifications.
Important: Under Customer Notifications in the Payments > Invoices & Estimates section, "Invoice Received" and "Estimate Received" are the only two notifications you can't turn off for customers. This is intentional. These notifications make sure customers know when they've received an invoice or estimate, so both the email and SMS versions are mandatory. You can still turn off similar notifications for your internal team members if you need to.
Please note: You can't customise the subject line of the email templates.
Once you've set up templates for all the notification types you want, scroll down and click Save.
Please note: You can use the following invoice custom values to fill in relevant information in your templates:
Note: Relevant invoice transactional emails can bypass email DND, so important billing information still reaches the recipient. Marketing and promotional emails still respect DND preferences.
