Use subscription and refund triggers in workflows

Learn how to start workflows when a subscription is created, moves from trial to active or is cancelled, and when a refund is processed.

Payment triggers give you more control over the automations you build around converting leads. As well as the Payment Received, Order Submitted and Invoice triggers, there are two more payment triggers you can use.

1. Subscription Trigger

This trigger lets you automate processes around subscription status changes, such as:

  • When a subscription is created for a customer

  • When a subscription moves from trial to active

  • When a subscription is cancelled

You can also use subscription status filters to create IF conditions. Base them on status changes or on the product linked to the subscription. You can use the custom values in the Payments section of custom values too.

2. Refund Trigger

This trigger lets you build automations around refunds processed by you or your sales agents. You can start a workflow when a refund is attempted, then branch based on:

  • Whether the refund succeeded or failed

  • Whether the refund was for the full amount or a partial amount

  • The amount or source of the refund

Refund custom values are also available in the Payments section of custom values. Use them to send customised notifications for different scenarios.

Note: These triggers work with the Stripe, Authorize.net and NMI integrations under Payments -> Integrations. For PayPal, the trigger only works when a subscription is created, not on any later actions.
