This video goes through how to set up a Zap that catches contact details sent from the Genius Messenger CRM Facebook extension and creates or updates the matching contact in ZipLeads. Use this when you want name, email, phone and label information from a Facebook Messenger conversation to land in ZipLeads automatically.

Please use this link to integrate your Zapier account with ZipLeads BEFORE proceeding with the steps: https://zapier.com/developer/public-invite/106592/9b0923c75a6a085902517d1c36fcd752/

Before you start

  • A Zapier account on a plan that allows Premium apps (Webhooks by Zapier)

  • The Genius Messenger CRM browser extension installed and logged in on Facebook

  • A ZipLeads account connected to Zapier (or the login details to connect it during setup)

  • A Facebook friend or Messenger conversation to test with

1. Start a new Zap in Zapier

From the Zapier Dashboard, click Create Zap at the top of the left menu.

Step 1

2. Choose the Catch Hook trigger

In the trigger step:

  • Set the app to Webhooks by Zapier.

  • Set Trigger Event to Catch Hook.

  • Click Continue.

Step 2

Tip: Webhooks by Zapier is a Premium app, so you need a paid Zapier plan to use it.

3. Name the Zap and copy the webhook URL

  • Click the Zap name at the top left and rename it, for example Contact Info To ZipLeads.

  • On the Set up trigger panel, click Copy next to Custom Webhook URL.

Step 3

Tip: Leave this Zapier tab open, you will come back to it to test the trigger.

4. Paste the URL into the Genius Messenger CRM extension

  • Open Facebook and click the Genius Messenger CRM extension icon in your browser toolbar (circled in red).

  • In the extension menu, click Webhooks.

  • Paste the copied webhook URL in, give it a name you will recognise (for example Contact Info To ZipLeads Test) and save it.

Step 4

5. Open the Friends list in Genius Messenger CRM

In the extension menu, click Friends to open the full Friends page. Wait for the list to load.

Step 5

6. Find the contact you want to send as test data

  • Type part of the contact's name into the search box at the top right and click Search.

  • On the contact card that appears, use the small webhook icon to send that friend's details to your webhook URL.

Step 6

Tip: Pick a contact that already has a label applied, so you can see the label come through in the test data.

7. Continue the trigger set-up in Zapier

Go back to the Zapier tab. Leave Silent Mode unticked and Pick off a Child Key empty, then click Continue.

Step 7

8. Test the trigger

On the Test trigger panel, click Test trigger. Zapier will look for the request sent from the extension.

Step 8

9. Check the data that came through

Confirm the Request A sample shows the fields you expect: firstName, lastName, friendLabel, friendEmail, friendPhone, profileImage and messengerUrl. Then click Continue.

Step 9

Tip: These field names are what you will map into ZipLeads in the next step.

Watch out: If no request is found, re-send the contact from the Friends page and test again.

10. Add the ZipLeads action

  • Click the 2. Action step.

  • Choose ZipLeads as the app and Add/Update Contact as the event, then click Continue.

Step 10

11. Choose your ZipLeads account

Select your ZipLeads account from the dropdown (for example Zipline - Tutorial Account), then click Continue. If the account is not listed, use Manage connected accounts to add it.

Step 11

12. Map the webhook fields to the ZipLeads contact fields

On the Set up action panel, map the data from step 1 into the ZipLeads fields:

  • First Name: firstName

  • Last Name: lastName

  • Email: friendEmail

  • Phone: friendPhone

  • Tags: friendLabel (if you want the Facebook label carried across)

Click Continue when the mapping is done.

Step 12

Watch out: Email or phone is what ZipLeads uses to match an existing contact, so always map at least one of them to avoid creating duplicates.

13. Test the action and turn the Zap on

  • Click Test action and wait for Test was successful.

  • Check in ZipLeads that the contact has been created or updated.

  • Click Turn on Zap.

Step 13

14. Send a contact from a Messenger chat

Open the conversation in Facebook Messenger and open the Genius Messenger CRM panel on the right of the chat:

  • Go to the Additional Details tab.

  • Enter the contact's email address and phone number.

  • Choose your webhook from the dropdown (Contact Info To ZipLeads Test).

  • Click Update.

Step 14

Tip: Any tags or labels already on the chat will be sent along with the details.

15. Confirm the details are saved

Go back to the Friends page in Genius Messenger CRM to check the contact shows the correct label, then open ZipLeads and confirm the contact record now holds the name, email, phone and tag.

Step 15

Tip: Repeat the Additional Details step for any other Facebook contact you want pushed into ZipLeads.

Notes

  • The Zap only needs building once. After it is turned on, every contact you send from the Genius Messenger CRM extension flows into ZipLeads automatically.

  • The webhook URL is unique to this Zap, so do not reuse it for a different automation.
