Recovering lost or damaged drafts

This article gives instructions for how to locate and recover 1Place App draft backups on a user's device.

Updated this week

If you're using App version 1.75 or higher, there's a handy backup feature that might help you get your lost or damaged drafts back.

Here how it works:

  • The app will automatically save a backup of your drafts every 10 minutes (while the app is open).

  • It keeps the two most recent backups on your device.

  • You can also manually change the frequency of the backup anytime by going into the Settings page.

  • If you're using an iPhone or iPad with iCloud, a copy will also be saved there (if iCloud is turned on).

Notes:

  • This feature only works if you've given the app permission to access your storage.

  • If you delete the app, these backups will also be deleted.

How to check if Backup is on:

  • Go to your app Settings and make sure storage or file access is turned on.

  • Make sure iCloud is also turned on if you're using an Apple device.

Step-by-Step: How to Find and Restore Your Drafts

1. Open the Files App

  • On your iPad or iPhone, click the Files app (the blue folder icon).

Android users – By default, system files are hidden on Android devices. To view them, you’ll need to download an app called Files, which allows you to unhide system files.
We recommend using Files, available on the Google Play Store:
Files
Once downloaded, use this app instead of selecting ‘On my iPhone/iPad’ in the following steps.

2. Find the 1Place Folder

  • Click ‘On My iPad’ (or ‘On My iPhone’).

  • Look for a folder called “1Place.”

Can’t find the folder?
Open the 1Place app, go to Settings, click Export, then try these steps again.

3. Look for Draft Files

  • Inside the 1Place folder, you should see files with file names like:
    draft-export-XXXX.json and image-export-XXXX.json

These are your backup drafts and any photos that go with them.

4. Move the Files

  • Click and hold each file, then select ‘Move.’

  • Choose a new place to save them, like the Downloads folder.

  • Click ‘Move’ to confirm.

Android Users – When moving the exported files, please make sure to save them in a visible (non-hidden) folder, such as ‘Download’. Otherwise, you won’t be able to access them when importing into the 1Place app in Step 6.

5. Log In and Open Settings

  • Open the 1place app and log in.

  • Click the (three lines) and go to Settings.

6. Import Your Draft Files

  • Click ‘Import’ to add the draft file.

  • Then select ‘Import Images’ to add the matching photo file.

  • The app will let you know if the import worked.

If Drafts didn’t import:

If your drafts haven’t successfully imported and you have iCloud backup enabled, there may be back up copies saved in “1Place” folder in your iCloud (or the 'Files' application, if you're an Android user).

You can try manually importing these files into the app.
