Windows & macOS Instructions
1. Why We Need the USB Vendor ID and Product ID
Sometimes a printer is not automatically detected by 3DPrinterOS.
This usually happens when the USB driver data isn’t yet known to our system.
To help us add support for your printer, we need its unique identifiers: the USB Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID). Once we receive this VID;PID pair, we can register the printer correctly in our system.
Follow the steps below to retrieve this information on Windows or macOS.
2. Windows: Finding VID & PID
Open the Start Menu and go to Devices and Printers.
Locate your printer icon, then double-click it.
Click on the Hardware tab, then choose Properties.
Switch to the Details tab.
From the Property dropdown menu, select Hardware Ids.
Copy the values immediately after VID_ and PID_.
Example: VID_2974, PID_0503
These numbers are what we need to register your printer.
3. macOS: Finding VID & PID Using System Report
Click the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
Click System Report… to open the hardware overview.
In the left sidebar, go to Hardware → USB.
Find your printer in the list of USB devices.
Copy the Vendor ID and Product ID shown.
These values are your printer’s VID and PID.
4. Tips & Troubleshooting
Make sure the printer is plugged in and powered on before starting.
On Windows, you must select “Hardware Ids” do not use “Device Instance Path” or “Compatible IDs.”
On macOS, ensure you are checking under the USB section, not Bluetooth or other hardware categories.
If your printer doesn’t appear, unplug and replug the USB cable, then refresh the device list or report.
Wrap-Up
Following these steps ensures we get the exact VID and PID needed to support your printer in 3DPrinterOS.
If you run into any issues or can’t locate the IDs, feel free to contact our support team or send us a screenshot - we’re happy to help!
