How to connect Prusa MK4/Mini via network
1. You will need to connect the printer to the network using a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
Some details differ between various printer types, but the process is generally the same. Note that on the Prusa MINI, you have to install the Wi-Fi module first.
Insert the bundled USB flash drive into the printer and keep it there.
2. Your assembled Original Prusa MK4 comes with a pre-installed ESP Wi-Fi module.
The preferred network connection type can be selected in the menu Settings > Network > Default
Make sure Wi-Fi is selected.
Note: The Wi-Fi module supports 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz networking only. A 5 GHz network will not work.
If you prefer the wired Ethernet connection to the network, use the connector on the back of the printer and skip to step 9.
3. The Wi-Fi setup wizard should show up after the first printer startup.
The Wi-Fi setup wizard is also available in the menu Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > Setup Wi-Fi Module
Hit Continue. The software in the printer's Wi-Fi ESP module will get updated automatically.
4. Hit Yes when prompted to generate credentials.
The printer will generate a prusa_printer_settings.ini configuration file on the USB drive.
Remove the USB drive from the printer.
If there is a valid configuration file on the USB drive already, you can skip these steps and just load it straight away.
5. There are two ways to fill in the Wi-Fi connection credentials:
Using PrusaSlicer(step 6) or Manually using a text editor(step 7).
6. Open up PrusaSlicer.
Make sure you are using PrusaSlicer version 2.7.0 or newer. Older versions do not support this feature.
Connect the USB drive to your computer.
A Wi-Fi configuration window will appear. Alternatively, the window can be accessed from the pop-up message at the bottom.
Fill in the:
SSID: Select or write down the Wi-Fi network name you wish to connect your printer to.
Password: Write down the Wi-Fi password.
Drive: Make sure the USB drive from your printer is selected.
Click the Write button to save the settings.
7. If the PrusaSlicer method doesn’t suit you, you can manually insert the Wi-Fi credentials using a text editor.
You can just skip this step if you have already set the credentials in PrusaSlicer.
Connect the USB drive to your computer.
Locate the prusa_printer_settings.ini file created by the printer on the USB drive. Open it up in the text editor.
Go to the second line named ssid= and write down the name of the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect your printer to.
Go to the third line named psk= and write down the Wi-Fi password.
Save the file on the USB drive.
8. Connect the USB drive back to the printer.
Hit Continue to load settings to the printer.
Wait until the connection is established, as indicated by the Wi-Fi icon on the top of the screen.
If the Wi-Fi connection wasn’t established, verify the settings you entered in the configuration file. Then, navigate to the Network > Wi-Fi > Load credentials to load a revised configuration file.
9. Connect the printer
To connect the printer to the Client, you'll need to find its IP address.
Navigate to the menu Settings > Network > IPv4 Address. Note down the IP address shown.
10. Go to the 3DPrinterOS Client web interface.
Log into your 3DPrinterOS account or create an account if you don't have one.
Choose “Add network printer,” specify your printer's IP address, and select the type.
On the printer screen, navigate to Settings > Network > Prusalink to get the password.
The 3DPrinterOS Client will connect to your printer, and you will see “ready” next to the printer type.
You can change the printer's name by clicking on it.
Click “Go to your 3DPrinterOS Cloud account,” and you will be redirected to 3DPrinterOS. Choose “Printers” from the top menu; you should see the new printer connected to the cloud.
