Overview

The Competitor Feed (Competitive Market Analysis) allows you to benchmark your store against specific direct competitors in real-time. Instead of querying the entire global catalog, this tool lets you isolate up to three competitor domains and run a side-by-side comparison for a specific user intent.

Use this tool to see if competitors are outranking you for specific queries (e.g., "snowboard with good float") and understand the "why" behind their AI visibility.

Setting Up a Comparison

To begin an analysis, you must define the search context and the competitive landscape.

  1. Define the Search Query: Enter a natural language query that represents a specific product feature or user need.

    • Example: "snowboard with good float"

  2. Select Competitors: You can compare your store against up to 3 other domains.

    • Previously Used: Quickly select competitors you have analyzed before.

    • Custom Domain: Type in the URL of a new competitor (e.g., www.jonessnowboards.com) to add them to the analysis.

  3. AI Settings: Ensure the "Apply AI filter refinement" checkbox is selected. This allows the AI to attempt to use the store's native filters to refine results, simulating a smart agent's behavior.

  4. Execute: Click Run Comparison.

Analyzing the Results Dashboard

The results are displayed in a column view, with your store on the left and competitors on the right.

Store-Level Metrics

At the top of each column, you will see high-level scoring for that specific domain:

  • Alignment Score (e.g., 76%): Measures how well the store's overall inventory and metadata aligned with the user's intent.

  • Confidence Score (e.g., 80%): Indicates the AI's certainty that the products it found are a match.

  • Filter Usage: The dashboard indicates if the AI was able to successfully enable filters on the site (e.g., "Filters Enabled" vs. generic results). If the AI cannot use filters on your site but can on a competitor's, the competitor may surface more relevant results faster.

Product Rankings

Below the metrics, you will see the actual products returned by the agent for each store.

  • Rank: The order in which the AI listed the products (Rank #1, #2, etc.).

  • Relevance: Visual confirmation of whether the returned products actually match the query (e.g., did searching for "good float" return a powder board or a park board?).

The "See AI Audit" view

If a competitor is outranking you, you can reverse-engineer their success by inspecting the AI's logic.

  1. Select a Competitor Product: Find a high-ranking product in a competitor's column (e.g., "Hovercraft 2.0 Snowboard").

  2. Click "See AI Audit": This button on the product card opens a detailed modal.

  3. Review the Analysis:

    • Analysis Logic: Read exactly why the AI chose this product.

    • Example: "Hovercraft's floaty nose and camber underfoot offer good float, aligning strongly with intent."

    • Product Description: View the raw text the AI read to form its opinion. This helps you identify keywords or feature descriptions (like "3D Contour Base" or "floaty nose") that you might be missing in your own listings.
