1️⃣ Deadhead

  • Deadhead is automatically calculated and added to your load.

  • The system measures the distance from your location at the time of load acceptance to your arrival at the facility.

  • Tip: Keep the 5F app open from the moment you accept the load until delivery is completed for accuracy.

  • Deadhead calculations may vary based on customer and region. Contact your Area Manager for precise details.

2️⃣ Truck Ordered Not Used (TONU)

  • TONUs are based on all the deadhead miles and fuel surcharge driven from the facility where you picked up the empty trailer to the facility where it was supposed to be swapped for the loaded trailer.

  • Example: From the last stop of the previous load to the first stop of the next load or from first stop to second stop of the same load.

3️⃣ Detention

(i) Power Unit
CHEP pays detention at all their facilities, starting after a 2-hour free period.

  • Start Time: Facility arrival (must be within appointment window)

  • End Time: Facility departure

  • Rate: $12.50 for every 15 minutes

    • 0-14 minutes: $0

    • 15-29 minutes: $12.50

    • 30-44 minutes: $25

    • 45-59 minutes: $37.50

    • 60-74 minutes: $50

    • Detention Caps: $350 (7 hours)

How to Calculate Detention: 1️⃣ Departure Time - Appointment Time = Includes detention time before the free period.
2️⃣ Subtract 120 minutes (free period).
3️⃣ Divide by 15 and round down (e.g., 4.99 → 5).
4️⃣ Multiply by $12.50.
The final amount is your detention pay to the penny.

(ii) No Power Unit

  • Detention starts 48 hours after the trailer drop (excluding weekends and holidays).

  • Applies only to Shipper facilities (not Walmart).

  • Carrier must arrive on time and provide proof of arrival.

  • $50 daily fee applies after the free time ends, with a max charge of $350 per month per trailer.

  • Shipper must be notified 6 hours before the free time expires if detention is expected. If no notification is given, the Shipper is not responsible for any detention charges.

4️⃣ Layover

  • If you arrive at the destination facility and discover it’s closed, inform dispatch.

  • Dispatch will verify and instruct you to remain with the loaded trailer until the facility opens the following day.

  • Dispatcher will submit a $150 layover payout request, processed with your next settlement once approved.

5️⃣ Additional Stops

If extra pickup or drop-off stops are added to your load, you'll be paid as follows:

  • $100 for the first additional stop

  • $50 for each additional stop after the first

  • Example:
For 5 stops total (3 extra stops), you'll earn $200 ($100 for the first extra stop and $50 each for the next two).

6️⃣ Tolls - System Update

Current System (Automated Tolls)

  • Automatic Calculation: The system automatically calculates toll charges.

  • No Submission Required: No need to submit toll receipts for automated tolls.

Upcoming Change

  • Toll Receipt Requirement: Toll receipts will be required for tolls not automatically added by the system.
