Quick Start - Introduction

Centaur wireless network is part of the system that senses the monitored phenomena, collects and propagates the data from the field to Centaur cloud platform. The wireless network consists of:

  • Wireless sensor devices (i.e. end nodes)

  • Wireless network extenders (repeaters)

  • Wireless sensor network and internet gateway (i.e. Centaur All-in-One Gateway)

To set up a new network, it is necessary to have a Centaur All-in-One gateway activated and connected to the internet, to ensure communication with the Centaur Platform. Centaur gateways come with a global GSM/ Cellular sim card that supports cellular carriers in more than 150 countries around the world.

One-Off Network Infrastructure Setup

Follow the next steps to setup a wireless sensor network infrastructure through which the wireless sensor devices will communicate their data to the gateway:

Unpack and assemble the GSM gateway and connect the wireless sensor gateway through a USB port.

1-2) Screw the antennas 5 antennas to the Centaur All-in-One Gateway (starting from left to right) :

  • 1 Xbee (long thin antenna)

  • 2 Cellular (long thick antennas)

  • 2 Wifi (short thin antennas)

3) Plug it into a power source
4) Plug in the USB to power on the device
5) This is the final form of the device with all the antennas installed
6) Once you plug in the USB cable to the device you should be able to see the RGB LEDs turning on

Centaur all-in-one gateway has (7) seven LEDs indicating the following functionalities:
[1]: Xbee network activity [blue]
[2]: Generic fault [red]
[3]: Power on [yellow]
[4-7]: Cellular network signal strength (quality of connections) [green]

Alternative Means for Internet Access

If you want to connect your Centaur All-in-One Gateway on your local area network to let it access the internet as an alternative to cellular carriers, see here.

Now that your gateway is assembled and activated, you are ready to discover your sensors in order to start getting live data. See here how.
