This is a Standard Enterprise feature. The integration is currently limited to Jira cloud-hosted plans and unavailable for on-premises.

Jira is one of the industry's leading task management and tracking solutions. Jira tasks contain the business context and audit trail behind why a particular change was made to the data model.

Now there is a way to pair SqlDBM with a Jira account and allow users to jump bi-directionally between a project revision and an associated ticket. This integration happens at the account level so multiple projects can utilize task linking in Jira.

Type "jira" into any comment box to reference a Jira task and create the link between SqlDBM and Jira. You will then see the SqlDBM comment published in the Jira task and the bi-directional link between the two tools.

Configuring Jira integration

Note, you will need administrator privileges in Jira to complete this integration.

SqlDBM and Jira can be integrated by installing the SqlDBM app from the Jira Marketplace.

Use the link above to access the app or navigate from the "Apps" section in the Jira menu:

Search for SqlDBM and install the app

Authenticate with your user (on a Standard Enterprise license)

Select the project(s) you wish to link with Jira. These projects will have the ability to reference Jira tickets.

The configuration is now complete, and you can begin using Jira features in the selected project.

Associate Jira tasks with project revisions

Jira tasks can be linked with project revisions by leaving a tagged comment on the affected table.

Right-click on any object to add a comment.

In any part of the comment, type "jira" to bring up the Jira reference.

By default, the latest Jira tasks are displayed as suggestions.

To search for a specific task, continue typing the task number or part of the title.

Once the comment is published, the link between the task and revision is complete.

The current revision will now be linked to the mentioned Jira task.

Note that you can associate multiple tasks to a single revision by repeating this process while in the same revision.

Review revisions linked with Jira

In the previous step, we covered how to associate revisions with Jira tasks. Once a revision has been linked with task(s), there are several ways to find and review this information.

Revisions Page

Jira tasks (and their links) are visible on the revisions page on the associated revisions.

Revisions can also be filtered by Jira task type and the existing flag filters. Click on the funnel icon in the top right and apply a selection to narrow down the list of revisions.

Compare revisions page

Related Jira tasks are also visible as icons on the Compare Revisions page to help make it easier to identify individual revisions. As on the Revisions page itself, Jira tasks can also be used to filter the revision list.

Right-click anywhere on the revisions in the Compare Revisions list, and the filter menu will pop up. Tick the desired selection options to filter the list of revisions.

Search for Jira task references in SqlDBM comments

As Jira tasks are mentioned in SqlDBM comments, they benefit from the existing wild-card pattern search in the comments screen.

Enter the comments screen by clicking on the speech bubble icon from the left-hand menu and search for part of the Jira task name or number to find it in existing comments.

Jump between Jira and SqlDBM

Once a revision has been linked with task(s), a user can jump directly between the two applications.

From the diagram comment to Jira

Click on the Jira link in an existing comment to open the associated Jira task.

From the Revisions page to Jira

From the Revisions page, click on the Jira link on an existing revision to open the associated Jira task.

From a Jira task to SqlDBM

Click on the SqlDBM link that has been automatically inserted as a comment on the Jira task when the reference was created. This link will take you to the object on the page of the related SqlDBM project in which the reference was made.

Modify the Jira configuration and edit the project list

If you wish to add or remove SqlDBM projects from Jira, edit the settings on the SqlDBM app in Jira.

Logging out and signing in with a different SqlDBM account is also possible from these settings.
