This can be tested online, see 'Perform connection tests on the computer you use for session'. All the automatic tests should show green.
You have a Wi-Fi connection according to the following specifications.
This can be tested online, see above. Minimum 30 Mbit download, 20 Mbit download.
You have the following materials:
VCE Smart Glass
Frame or mount for the Smart Glass
External Battery module
1x USB-A to USB-C cable (to charge Smart Glass)
1x micro-USB cable (to charge the battery, depending on the battery model*)
Step-by-step guide for first time use
Tip:
To learn how to operate the Smart Glass, check the 'VCE™ Smart Glass controls guide' for detailed instructions.
Step 1. Charging your Smart Glass and external battery
The Smart Glass consists of 2 parts: a module with the display attached, and an external battery. Both parts need to be charged for effective use of the Smart Glass. The display module has a very limited battery life of approximately 5 minutes, so you should always use the external battery with it.
Note:
The 5 minutes battery life of the display module is meant to keep the Smart Glass online, while you change the external battery when the external battery runs out of charge.
* Select your type of battery:
Battery option 1:
Charge the external battery module
Use the battery charging cable (micro-USB) to connect the external battery to a USB charger (such as a phone or computer).
Battery option 2:
Charge the external battery module
Use the battery charging cable (USB A to USB C) to connect the external battery to a USB charger (such as a phone or computer).
Tip:
Fully charging the external battery before use ensures maximum usage time for the Smart Glass.
Charge the Smart Glass module
Use the Smart Glass charging cable (USB-C) to connect the Smart Glass to a USB charger hub (such as a phone or computer).Outcome: The indicator light on the external battery turns green, indicating a full charge. A solid red LED indicates that the battery is low but the device can still be used for a short period.
Warning:
Do not attempt to use the Smart Glass if the LED is flashing red as it may shut down unexpectedly.
Step 2. Connecting your Smart Glass to Wi-Fi
Log in to the VCE web app
Go to VirtualCE and enter your credentials.
Generate a Wi-Fi QR code
On the Dashboard, find the 'Wi-Fi QR Generator' tab. Enter your Wi-Fi details and click the green 'Connect' button.
Power on the Smart Glass
Hold the power button until the LED turns green.
Note:
The Smart Glass should start up in scanning mode. If not, please check the Smart Glass control guide for how to open the scanning mode.
Scan the Wi-Fi QR code
Put the Smart Glass on, and use it to scan the on-screen QR code.Connect to Wi-Fi
If the QR code is recognised, the Smart Glass will display a confirmation message. Select the ‘Connect to network’ button to initiate the connection to the Wi-Fi network.
Note: Once connected, the Smart Glass will remember the network for future sessions.
Step 3. Installing software and running updates
Ensure that the Smart Glass is running the latest software version.
Check for updates
On the Smart Glass, go to the settings and check for software updates.Install updates
If any updates are available, install them and restart the device.Retry connection
Attempt to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network after updating the software.Outcome: The latest software and updates are installed on the Smart Glass for optimal performance and security.
Step 4. Testing the Smart Glass in 'Device test centre'
After connecting to Wi-Fi, you can verify if the Smart Glass can connect to our system. This ensures the device is properly integrated with our platform.
Log in to the VCE web app
Go to VirtualCE and enter your credentials. This will take you to the Dashboard.
Test Smart Glass
Go to the 'Device test centre' tab, and click on "Test Smart Glass".
Scan QR code
Power on the Smart Glass, and use it to scan the QR code.
Outcome: You should now see the video feed from the Smart Glass in the browser's screen. If so, the setup was successful and the Smart Glass works correctly.
Install ‘Vuzix View’ desktop app for easy control of the Smart Glass
The buttons and screen on the Smart Glass are tiny, so using the Vuzix View app on your computer enhances control and readability, making it easier to navigate and issue commands to the smart glass.
Download the 'Vuzix View' App
Go to the Vuzix official website, and select the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows or macOS).Install the App
Download the installer file and run it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Troubleshooting: If you cannot install software on your computer, contact your IT provider.
