Wheely works with three different licensing authorities: TfL, Castlepoint and Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
If you choose to apply for a license with Royal Borough, please note, that the process you will go through is slightly different from the other boroughs as you will need to apply for a badge exemption. For more information, please read below.
RBWM Licensing Procedure
To work with Wheely while holding a license from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM), you must apply for a vehicle plate (badge) exemption. This exemption is a crucial step to enable you to operate on the Wheely platform, as only after the exemption is granted, can we activate you on the platform.
How does it work?
You will need three different documents:
During the application process, you will reach a stage where you will need the Operator to sign your application. Wheely, does not sign the application, however, we will provide you with a letter to attach to your RBWM application that should be enough to support your application to work on Wheely.
Please note that you will only be able to attend accreditation after you have received both your driver's and vehicle license from RBWM
You will attend accreditation once you have both your driver's and your vehicle's license (the exemption is not yet active).
Once you complete your accreditation successfully, Wheely will provide you with two additional documents that you will need to book the exemption badge appointment. These are only provided upon completion of our 2 day training course, and are to be filled out by you and handed over during your second appointment with RBWM.
You will have to book another appointment with RBWM to process the exemption.
Once the exemption has been granted you upload the exemption certificate on your dashboard, we can validate and activate your vehicle on the Wheely platform.
To receive these documents, please make a formal request to Londonpartners@wheely.com.
How do I apply for the badge exemption?
After completing the 2-day accreditation and receiving the exemption support letter and an accreditation completion letter, you will need to book a second appointment with the Royal Borough Of Windsor And Maidenhead. At this appointment, you will require both documents printed out, in order to apply for the badge exemption.
Please note that an appointment can only be made by calling their customer service on 01628 683800.
Once you have received your badge exemption, you will be required to upload the exemption letter on your Chauffeur Dashboard under 'additional documents' and also send us the document by email. Upon approval of this document, your account will be activated, allowing you to perform journeys on the Wheely platform.
Is the badge exemption only valid for Wheely journeys?
Yes, the badge exemption is exclusively valid for Wheely journeys. It allows you to operate on the Wheely platform without displaying the vehicle plate (badge) during Wheely journeys. Please note that this exemption does not apply to any other journeys performed outside the Wheely platform.
Where do I keep my badge and exemption letter?
Please securely store both your private hire plate and the exemption letter in your vehicle's booth.
Can I be activated on Wheely without a vehicle plate exemption?
No. You can only work on Wheely whilst holding a Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead license if you have been successfully granted the exemption.
How do I apply for a license with RBWM?
