How to Resolve Common Issues with CEU Submissions and Compliance

Managing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) is essential for maintaining your credentials. This guide addresses common issues related to CEU submissions, eligibility, educational hours, index errors, and deadlines, along with actionable solutions.

CEU Submission Errors

Why Were My CEUs Declined?

CEUs may be declined for the following reasons:

  • If you did not purchase this webinar or complete the post-test, no credit can be given.

  • If you did not attend a local chapter meeting and were not marked in attendance you cannot earn credit.

Submitting fraudulent education is a violation of the CEU Ethics Policy and can result in your credential being permanently revoked. If your CEUs are declined, a decline letter will be emailed to you for further clarification.

CEU Eligibility and Credential Application

Why Don’t CEUs from Certain Events Count Toward My Credential?

According to AAPC policy, CMS-sponsored trainings do not qualify for specialty CEUs, such as those required for the CPCO credential. However, you can use AAPC magazine quizzes available in your account to meet specialty requirements. If you have feedback about this policy, you can share it with the CEU department.

Educational Hours and Intensity Requirements

Why Are My CEUs Not Showing as Complete?

Even if you have submitted more than the required CEU hours, your education hours must also meet the required threshold. For example, if your CEUs total 41.25 but your education hours are only 32.75, you will need to add additional education hours to meet the requirements.

CEU Index Error Resolution

What Should I Do If the CEU Index Number Has Already Been Submitted?

When you complete a quiz, the CEU codes are automatically added to your tracker. To resolve this issue:

  1. Refresh your CEU tracker to confirm whether the CEU is already listed.

  2. If the issue persists, contact the CEU department for further assistance.

CEU Deadlines and Free Resources

Why Did I Receive a Notification About Delinquent CEUs?

When you are first certified, you receive a prorated amount of CEUs due to match your renewal date. For example, if 7.5 CEUs were due by a specific date, the deadline may be extended for first-time submissions at no cost. To access free CEUs:

  1. Click the Certification tab at the top of the AAPC website and select Maintain Your Credential to visit the CEU landing page.

  2. Navigate to the left-side menu and select Low Cost CEUs to view and access free CEUs available to you as a member.

By following these guidelines, you can resolve common CEU-related issues and ensure compliance with AAPC policies. For further assistance, contact the CEU department or refer to the AAPC website.
