What Happens If I Miss My CEU Deadline?

If CEUs are not completed and submitted by the required deadline, your certification status may be affected.

Your next steps depend on your account status, CEU submission history, and whether extension or reinstatement options are available.

First Step: Check Your CEU Tracker

If you missed your CEU deadline:

  1. Log in to your AAPC account.

  2. Open your CEU Tracker.

  3. Review your current CEU status.

  4. Check whether extension or submission options are available.

If an Extension Is Available

If an extension option is available, follow the instructions in your account to reopen the CEU submission window and submit your CEUs.

CEU extensions are generally limited and must be used within the applicable extension period.

If an Extension Is Not Available

If the CEU submission window can no longer be extended, you may need to follow the reinstatement process to restore your certification status.

Reinstatement requirements may include submitting CEUs, completing documentation, paying applicable fees, or following additional instructions provided by the reinstatement team.

Why Did My CEU Count Reset?

CEU cycles are tied to renewal periods.

CEUs from a prior renewal cycle do not automatically carry forward once the cycle has closed or a new cycle has started.

To maintain certification, CEUs must be completed and submitted within the eligible renewal cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a second CEU extension?

CEU extensions are generally limited to one extension per CEU submission cycle.

Can old CEUs carry forward after I miss the deadline?

CEUs from a previous renewal cycle generally do not carry forward once the cycle has closed.

What if I cannot complete CEUs before the extended deadline?

If CEUs are not completed by the available deadline, review your account for reinstatement options or contact AAPC Support for assistance.
