Can I Get Additional Time to Submit My CEUs?

Written by Andrew McLaughlin

If you are unable to submit your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) before your certification deadline, you may be eligible for a CEU Extension. A CEU Extension provides additional time to complete your CEU requirements and maintain your certification.

Is There a Fee?

AAPC currently charges a $50 CEU Extension fee.

How Long Does a CEU Extension Last?

CEU Extensions provide additional time to complete your CEU requirements. Extension eligibility and availability may depend on your certification status and renewal timeline. Because each situation can be different, AAPC recommends reviewing your account with a representative before purchasing an extension.

How Do I Request a CEU Extension?

If you believe you need additional time to complete your CEUs:

  1. Contact AAPC Customer Care.

  2. Discuss your certification status and CEU requirements with a representative.

  3. If eligible, the representative can review available extension options with you.

When Should I Request an Extension?

If you know you may not complete your CEUs by your renewal deadline, contact AAPC as soon as possible. Reviewing your options before your certification reaches a more serious expiration status may provide additional solutions.

What If My Certification Has Already Expired?

If your certification has already expired, a CEU Extension may not be the appropriate solution. Depending on how long the certification has been expired, reinstatement or other renewal options may be required. Contact Customer Care for guidance specific to your account.

Need Help?

Because CEU Extension eligibility can depend on your individual certification status, the fastest way to determine your options is to speak with a Customer Care representative.
