CEU Extension Policy

Written by Andrew McLaughlin

Overview

AAPC certified members may request a CEU extension when they need additional time to submit required CEUs.

A CEU extension is separate from membership renewal. Extending CEUs does not automatically extend membership, and extending membership does not automatically extend CEUs. If both membership and CEUs are due, both items must be addressed separately.

How Long Is a CEU Extension?

A CEU extension provides additional time from the CEU due date, not from the date the extension is requested or purchased. Internal CEU guidance states that CEU extensions provide 90 days from the CEU due date.

Can I Get More Than One CEU Extension?

CEU extensions can only be used once per CEU submission period.

Is There a Fee?

A CEU extension fee may apply. The public AAPC CEU support page states that AAPC charges a fee for CEU extensions and directs members to purchase an extension through the CEU tracker when needed.

Does the Hardship Fund Cover CEU Extensions?

Do not assume the Hardship Fund replaces the CEU extension process. Members experiencing financial hardship may review hardship assistance options, but CEU extensions are managed through the CEU extension process.

What Should I Do If My CEUs Are Due Soon?

Review your CEU Tracker and submit completed CEUs as soon as possible. If additional time is needed, check the available CEU extension option in your account or contact AAPC Support for assistance.
