Who Do I Serve at a Business?

Learn who to serve at a business — Registered Agents, corporate officers, or authorized representatives — and the difference between personal and substitute service.

Serve someone authorized to accept documents for the business — such as a Registered Agent, corporate officer, owner, or another authorized representative*.

*Unless otherwise specified by the Court or Customer requirements.

Always get their name and title for confirmation.
If the person isn’t sure they’re authorized, don’t serve them — find someone who is.

Serving a Registered Agent or Corporate Officer is considered a personal service.

Serving an employee is considered a substitute service.
