<p>Product feed for Google Shopping. You can find the product feed under Settings &gt; External links &gt; Product feeds.</p><p>What is Google Shopping?</p><p>Google Shopping works much like AdWords, but unlike AdWords text ads, the search results show an image, price, and product information, making it easier for visitors to compare products before they buy.</p>

Make sure the right products, prices, images, and stock information are sent from Abicart to Google, and find the cause when a product is missing or rejected.

Before you begin

Abicart's Google product feed is included in all subscriptions. The store must have a working public HTTPS address. You need a Merchant Center account with the correct website claim. Free product listings and paid Shopping ads are separate things; advertising also requires Google Ads and your own budget.

This guide applies to Abicart's file-based Google Shopping feed. It is not an instruction for building your own API integration. The images below show previous interfaces in Abicart and Google; use the corresponding current settings in your account.

1. Check the product's details and selection

Give each product a unique item number and a suitable Google category. Also, check the product name, description, price, image, and availability. The presence of a row in the file does not mean that Google approves its content.

  • Item number: is used as the product's ID in the feed. Do not change it to try to resolve an image or price error.

  • GTIN: is taken from the product's EAN. Use the manufacturer's real identifier, not a made-up number or the store's internal item number.

  • MPN and brand: use the manufacturer's part number and the correct brand, respectively, when relevant. The requirements depend on the product and Google's specification; "brand or GTIN" is not a general exception from other requirements.

  • Description: choose the right basis for the feed, for example, description, introduction, or both. The text must describe the product that is actually being sold.

  • Visibility and store: check that the product is not hidden, removed, specifically excluded from Google Shopping, or excluded from the current sub-store's assortment.

The brand field is activated if needed under Assortment → Settings → Product attributes. A missing image, incorrect price, or incomplete Google attributes can cause product errors even if the file has been generated.

Google category and inheritance

On the product, the Google taxonomy is in the categorization. On a product group, it is under the group's general settings. Choose one of Google's categories; your own category names cannot replace it.

You can set a category on a product group and have the products inherit it. Check the product's effective category and any custom choices if it ends up in the wrong place or is missing from the file. A regular product group and a Google category are not the same field.

Prices, stock, and customer's choice

Check the regular price and any active special price in the currency you choose for the file. The price on the landing page and in the checkout must match what Google reads.

Products without inventory management can be set as available. A product with inventory management and a zero balance is not always removed from the file: display when out of stock, the option to order, and the feed's availability value all play a role. However, products that are hidden when out of stock can be excluded. Read the product's actual row and compare it with the store's purchasability; do not change an actual stock balance to remove a Google error.

If purchases are allowed when stock has run out, this feed may report in_stock even at zero stock. It does not automatically create backorder with availability_date. Check that the feed's availability, the store's actual delivery information and Google's requirements agree. If correct backorder information is missing, the feed solution needs to be corrected before advertising the item on that basis.

Do not assume that each size/color option becomes a separate row. The standard export of customer options describes the main product. Check the actual file before advertising a specific variant price or stock level. A variant setting in the store is not in itself proof of a correct variant feed.

2. Get the correct file address in Abicart

Open Settings → External links → Product feeds. Select Google Shopping and the correct language, currency, and, if necessary, country for the shipping calculation. Copy the generated address; do not build your own by changing parts of the URL.

Each language and currency has its own file. The country selection affects the shipping basis and is not a substitute for Merchant Center's countries of sale or shipping settings. Open the address and check some known item numbers, column headers, and values before connecting it to Google.

3. Verify the correct website in Merchant Center

Check the company's account, the store's public HTTPS address, and the status for both verification and website claim. Follow Merchant Center's current instructions; the older images show where the corresponding information was previously located.

HTML tag in a theme with a Google field

For Google's HTML tag, copy only the value after content= to the special field under Appearance → Themes → edit the active theme → Add-ons → Google → Google Search Console. Do not paste the entire tag there.

This applies to themes that have this field. Check the correct active theme and sub-store; a change in an inactive theme will not verify the website. TPL and other theme variants need their own placement.

When the code is on the public page, go back to Google to verify and claim. A fixed waiting period of 12 hours is not required, and approval after a certain time is not guaranteed.

If a verification field is already in use

Do not overwrite another working verification. If your theme has a special field for Meta tags the entire new meta tag can be added there according to the field's instructions. This differs from the Google field, which only takes the content value. Otherwise, choose another method that Google offers and that you can implement.

4. Register the file as a data source

In Merchant Center, open the product settings for data sources and add products from a file/URL. The name may differ from the older images with Products → Feeds.

Select the correct language and intended countries of sale. They must match the product pages, currency, delivery options, and account.

Select scheduled fetch from file address if offered. Give the source a descriptive name and paste the complete address from Abicart. The file's display name is not a new address and should not replace the URL.

Select the fetch time, frequency, and correct time zone. For example, use a local time zone with the correct daylight saving/standard time instead of assuming that Sweden is always GMT+1.

5. Troubleshoot where the error occurs

There are two update steps: Abicart needs to generate the current file and Google needs to retrieve and process it. A change to the product therefore does not mean that Google will display it immediately.

  1. Is the product missing from the file? Check the product ID, Google category, visibility, exceptions, and the correct sub-store/language. Check when the file was last generated.

  2. Is the product present but with old values? Check the selected currency, price list/special price, description source, and if you have opened the correct file. A new fetch in Google cannot correct an old source file.

  3. Can't Google retrieve the file? Read the fetch error and check the exact URL, access, and schedule.

  4. Has Google read the line but rejected the product? Read the product's specific error regarding, for example, GTIN, price, image, or policy. Correct the affected value and check the next processing.

  5. Does the error apply to the entire account? Check website claims, business information, and account-level policy decisions. This is not resolved by changing individual product IDs.

Check the separate dates for the latest generation, Google's fetch, and product processing. Google's review can take time; a specific processing time or display is not guaranteed.

6. Link Google Ads if you are going to advertise

Google Ads was previously called AdWords. Link the correct Merchant Center and Ads accounts through the accounts' current linking settings. If necessary, create a Google Ads account.

Linking does not automatically start a campaign. Select the intended products, country of sale, campaign type, and budget in Google Ads before you activate the advertising. The older campaign images are examples, not a promise of today's buttons or default selections.

Check billing settings and ad budget in Google Ads. Do not run a paid campaign just to test if a product file works.

Quick start

  1. Check product ID, category, content, price, image, and purchasability.

  2. Copy the correct Google Shopping file for the language, currency, and store.

  3. Verify the website claim and register the file in Merchant Center.

  4. Check the file's content, fetch status, and product errors separately.

Subscription: The product feed is included in all Abicart subscriptions. Google decides on approval and display. Google Ads and any advertising costs are separate from Abicart's feed feature.
