Abode's newest Team Matching feature automates and streamlines the process of assigning interns, rotational hires, and new employees to teams and managers. With custom-weighted surveys, talent data imports, and automated notifications, organizations can optimize placements at scale.
What is Team Matching?
Team Matching allows organizations to:
Automate team placement for interns, new hires, and rotational programs.
Conduct two-layer matching by first assigning individuals to a team/role and then matching them with a manager.
Import talent data directly from spreadsheets with team demand and manager information.
Build custom surveys to gauge preference, skills, and role/team-specific questions.
Notify teams, managers, and new hires of their placements with automated messages.
How to Use Team Matching: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Create a Matching Group
Navigate to Matching in Abode.
Click Get Started under “Team Placement”.
Add a title and description that will be visible to candidates and managers.
Assign a point of contact for questions about the placement survey by using the “select user” dropdown.
Set a completion deadline date for surveys (interns receive reminders automatically).
Click Save and Continue.
Step 2: Define Team Matching Criteria
Select the team matching questions for matching (e.g., team preference, skills, or both).
Team Preference allows participants to rank their interest in different teams
Skills allows participants to select from a list of pre-uploaded skills they possess
If needed, add custom questions (e.g., preferred location, specific skills, work style preferences).
These questions are what the PARTICIPANT will see!
This step is optional.
Click Save and Continue.
Step 3: Create Jobs and Teams
Upload a CSV file containing team names, job roles, descriptions, and skills required.
Alternatively, manually input team information:
Job Title
Team Name
Demand (Number of Available Positions)
Team Description
Required Skills (up to 5 per role)
For more teams, click the “Add Team” button.
Click Confirm and Save.
Please note: If manually inputting team information, please know that jobs represent the roles participants can hold during their team placement. Start by giving the job a name, then add the appropriate teams. For example, a Software Engineer Intern role might have teams like Front-End Engineers or Back-End Engineers. You must add at least one team for each job.
Step 4: Assign Participants
Select the cohort or program whose participants should be included.
Please note: Your programs and cohorts need to be organized in the same way as you intend to match, given that the matching survey will be assigned to everyone in the program or cohort. If your current programs are not organized in a way that allows for this, we recommend creating a second program to reorganize them in the way that allows for matching to be leveraged.
For example, if your programs are organized by location but you are looking to match candidates based on job/role, you’d need to create a separate program for Matching and upload candidates into a second program based on role.
Click Assign and Continue.
Step 5 (Optional): Assign Managers
If needed, enable Manager Matching for additional optimization.
Upload a CSV file with manager information:
Job Title
Team Name
Manager Name
Manager Email
Decide whether to:
Manually assign managers OR
Allow Abode’s algorithm to match them based on responses.
Click Save and Continue.
Step 6: Set Matching Weighting
Adjust the importance of each factor (e.g., team preference, skills, location).
Choose between:
“Required” (a perfect match must exist; otherwise it will show a 0%)
“Very Important” (heavily weighted but not required)
“Somewhat Important” (somewhat important to be a good match)
“Less Important” (lightly weighted)
Click Complete to complete the setup.
Step 7: Launch the Preference Survey
Click Enable Survey to send the preference survey to interns. Click Send Invites to send a notification with a link to the survey via email.
Surveys will appear in their Abode Journeys until it closes, so they can make edits at any time.
Interns rate their preferences and skills.
Use real-time survey responses to make adjustments if needed.
Step 8: Run the Matching Algorithm
Ensure all roles and demand numbers match with participant entries.
Click Match to Teams to place candidates into their role or team.
If managers have also been added, Match to Managers after you’ve matched to teams and it will suggest recommended pairings.
Review matches before finalizing.
Step 9: Notify Interns and Managers
Once matches are finalized, use the dashboard to send automated notifications to both parties.
Interns receive their team and manager details directly within Abode.
Managers get notified via email.
If needed, send custom messages with additional context.
