How to Stay Organized with Programs and Cohorts

There are multiple ways to organize your programs and cohorts to meet the needs of your organization.

The introduction of programs and cohorts allows teams to better organize and segment their candidates for more efficient communication. This shift will improve admins' ability to reuse Templates across multiple groups of candidates (i.e. by location, by business unit, etc.) and allow for greater scalability of the platform.

Below are some thought starters when considering your Program and Cohort organization!

Ways to Organize Programs

  • A Program is the highest level of segmentation for your users, and the umbrella group that they are apart of in Abode

  • A Program is a group of people who need to receive the same information, and is made up of different cohorts

  • Programs are high-level groups such as summer interns, new grad hires, etc.

Ways to Organize Cohorts

  • A Cohort is a group of people within a Program

  • Cohorts can still receive Program-level information (general) but will be supplemented by Cohort-level specific information

  • Cohorts are sub-sets of programs such as sales summer interns, Denver interns, 2024 new grad hires, etc.

Considerations for Setting Up Programs and Cohorts

  • Communications: how do you currently send communications to your users? Are you sending a subset of users different communications? If so, you'll likely want to split your cohorts in that way

  • Community: how do you want your users to engage with each other? Are there smaller groups that you want to be able to engage with each other outside of the broader program? If so, that's how you'll want to split up your cohorts

  • Events: do you host events for a subset of users that aren't open to the broader program population? If so, that's how you'll want to split your cohorts

Even though you can only have one layer of segmentation, you can always create your cohorts with some type of intersection of multiple criteria:

  • If you want to be able to send information about their location and their role, an example would be "Denver - Finance"

  • If you want to send information specific to their start date and their line of business, an example would be "6/1 Starts - Product"

  • This will lead to a large number of cohorts, but could be the best experience for your candidates depending on how you need to communicate
