After receiving an Old School RuneScape account, verify the character first, secure the Jagex Account and email, set up your own authentication and Bank PIN, and keep your personal RuneScape characters completely separate.
Jagex Accounts work differently from many other game accounts because one Jagex Account can contain multiple RuneScape characters. That makes securing the account correctly after delivery especially important.
🔐 Secure the Jagex Account first
Before changing anything, log in and make sure the OSRS account matches the listing.
Check the important details you paid for, including combat and total level, skills, quests, achievement diaries, untradeables, bank value, membership, offences, and any other advertised features. If something important is missing or different, report it through your AccountShark order before making major changes.
Once everything is correct:
Change the Jagex Account password to something unique.
Secure the registered email if email access was included.
Set up an authenticator under your control.
Generate your own backup codes and save them somewhere private.
Review linked logins and active sessions and remove anything you do not recognize.
Sign out other sessions once you are confident the handoff is complete.
Your email, authenticator, and backup codes are as important as the Jagex Account password itself. Do not share them with anyone after the handoff.
⚠️ Never import your personal OSRS characters
Do not import a RuneScape or Old School RuneScape character you already own into a Jagex Account you purchased.
Jagex character imports are effectively permanent. Once a character has been imported into a Jagex Account, you generally cannot remove it and move it back to another Jagex Account.
More importantly, importing your personal characters ties them to the ownership and security history of the purchased Jagex Account. It may create conflicting account-history signals that lead to additional review or account action.
If the purchased Jagex Account is later recovered, locked, or closed, your personal characters could be permanently lost along with it.
Keep the two completely separate. Use the purchased Jagex Account only for the characters that came with your purchase, and keep characters you already owned on your personal Jagex Account.
🔢 Set your Bank PIN
Once you have control of the account, set or change the OSRS Bank PIN before storing substantial gold or valuable items on it.
A Bank PIN provides another barrier between somebody gaining game access and being able to empty the bank.
Remember that changing or removing a Bank PIN can involve a waiting period. Get your own PIN established before treating the account as somewhere to store significant personal wealth.
💳 Check old subscriptions and payment methods
Review the account for old membership subscriptions and saved payment information before making purchases of your own.
Remove payment information that does not belong to you and use only your own payment method for future membership, bonds, or other purchases. A leftover card can be charged accidentally, and if the cardholder later disputes that charge it becomes your problem on an account you now own.
This avoids confusion over old recurring subscriptions and reduces the chance of payment disputes or unexpected charges connected to the account's previous ownership.
🎮 Use normal OSRS clients and plugins
Jagex actively enforces its rules against botting, macroing and cheating.
Stick to the Jagex Launcher, official clients and established approved clients such as RuneLite. Avoid:
Bot clients and scripts
Auto-clickers used to automate gameplay
Macros that perform gameplay for you
Unsupported or prohibited plugins
Modified clients intended to cheat
Account services that require unnecessary access
Bug abuse or exploits
RuneLite itself is widely used and permitted, but that does not mean every third-party plugin or external tool is safe. If you cannot determine whether a tool complies with Jagex's rules, don't test it on your purchased account.
A ban caused by botting, macroing, cheating, or prohibited software after delivery is not covered by the AccountShark account warranty.
💰 Be careful with gold and wealth transfers
OSRS accounts can contain substantial amounts of GP and valuable items, so avoid unusual or unnecessarily complicated wealth movement.
Do not use the account for real-world trading, gambling, scams, illicit gold, or wealth connected to botting or other rule-breaking activity.
For your own legitimate transfers, keep them ordinary. Avoid using drop trades, intentional deaths, trust trades, suspicious gifts, or other shortcuts when a normal trade will accomplish the same thing.
Also be cautious about somebody unexpectedly offering to return items, give you large amounts of wealth, or asking you to move GP through another account. You do not know where that wealth originated.
👥 Clean up the previous owner's social connections
An established OSRS account may arrive with years of social history attached to it.
Review its friends list, ignore list, clan membership, group chats, and other social connections. Leave old clans or groups you do not intend to participate in and avoid continuing conversations with the previous owner's friends or clanmates.
Play the character as your own account going forward rather than trying to continue somebody else's relationships.
And do not discuss buying the account in-game, in clan chat, or with strangers. There is no benefit to advertising that the character changed hands.
🛡️ Keep the account low-risk after handoff
For the first period after delivery, keep things straightforward:
Use your normal computer and internet connection.
Avoid repeatedly signing in from different devices or locations.
Keep your credentials private.
Do not import personal characters into the Jagex Account.
Secure the account before moving significant personal wealth onto it.
Play normally rather than immediately making unusual account or wealth changes.
Jagex Accounts can send security notifications for new-device logins and account changes, which is another reason control of the registered email matters.
Once the handoff is complete, treat the Jagex Account, registered email, authenticator, backup codes, and Bank PIN as parts of the same security chain.
