How to Use the Poynt Terminal in Standalone Mode
This guide explains why and how to operate your Poynt terminal with Ackroo in Standalone Mode, allowing you to Fund and Redeem cards without a payment processor.
Why Use “Standalone Mode”?
Standalone Mode separates the payment and Ackroo steps:
Funding:
Take payment for the gift/loyalty card in your POS system.
Activate the card in the Ackroo app on the Poynt terminal.
Redeeming:
Redeem the card balance in the Ackroo app.
Reconcile the redemption in your POS (e.g., via a “Gift Card” tender).
Enabling Standalone Mode
Open the Ackroo app on your Poynt terminal.
Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the upper-right corner.
Select the Advanced tab.
Toggle Stand Alone Mode to ON.
Press the Home button to return to the main menu.
Funding a Card in Standalone Mode
Collect payment for the customer’s card in your POS before proceeding.
Open the Ackroo app and scan or enter the card—now you’ll see both Fund and Redeem options.
Tap Fund, then choose Gift or Loyalty as the tender type.
Gift: Enter the desired dollar amount.
Loyalty: Enter the purchase subtotal; the configured loyalty % is calculated automatically (via your Campaigns settings in the Program Console: https://manage.ackroo.com).
Confirm and the receipt prints immediately.
After funding, the app returns to the Balance screen with a printed receipt.
Redeeming a Card in Standalone Mode
Open the Ackroo app and scan or enter the card—tap Redeem.
Select Gift or Loyalty (promotional funds redeem as Loyalty).
Enter the dollar amount to redeem.
The app returns to the Balance screen and prints a receipt.
Reconcile the redemption in your POS system.
