Check Out a Vehicle

Release a vehicle from inventory.

Checking out a vehicle releases it from inventory. To complete this process, you'll need the following information:

  • VIN 

  • Gate pass

  • Driver’s license of individual taking the car

  • Beacons

Note: Work passes do not get scanned out via the Gate app at this time.

The following steps guide you through the checkout process:

1. From the Gate app menu, tap Vehicle Checkout.
The scanning screen opens.

2. Enter the VIN details.

Scan the VIN or stock sticker.

Manual

A. Tap the pencil icon.

B. Enter the VIN.

C. Click Save.

Note: You can enter the full VIN or search using the last six or eight digits.

Important: Make sure to verify the VIN against the VIN plate.

3. Enter the Gate Pass details.

Scan the Gate Pass barcode.

Manual

A. Tap the pencil icon.

B. Enter the Gate Pass code.

C. Click Save.

Important: Make sure to verify the VIN matches against the Gate Pass. If the numbers don’t match, the vehicle can’t leave the lot. 

Tip: Electronic gate passes are available as well.

4. Scan the barcode on the back of the driver’s license.

Tip: If the same customer is checking out multiple cars, tap Recent in the License box and select the driver from the list.

5. Enter the Beacon details.

Scan the VIN or stock sticker.

Manual

A. Tap the pencil icon.

B. Enter the Beacon ID.

C. Click Save.

6. Verify the driver details.

Note: Not all states store all the required information in the barcode. If a field is missing information, you'll need to tap the fields and enter it manually.

7. Optional: From the Checkout Details page, click the Search icon to modify information, update VINs, or change driver information from the Recent Drivers list.

8. Optional: Click Unit Notes and add any additional notes.
Notes appear on the Vehicle History tab in AMS after the vehicle is checked out.

9. Verify the information.

10. Click Confirm Checkout. 
Gate attempts to release the vehicle

Warning: If you see the red page shown, do not let the vehicle leave the lot. Check Handle Checkout Errors for details.
