How to set up Met One E-BAM mass monitor sensors

Below you'll see the step-by-step process for the E-BAM (Environmental Beta-Attentuation Mass Monitor) series of sensors as well as tips for troubleshooting and understanding model specific features. Check out guides on how to physically set up your Thiamis, and how to generally add a sensor in Environet.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Connect power to the Thiamis, there are three options:

    • Connect a 12V power supply to the 3 pole Euroblock connector

    • Connect a 5V power supply to either of the USB ports

    • When using an Aethair Node Enclosure, connect to the Node's power port

  2. Plug the DIN connector cable into the E-BAM's serial port, on the bottom of the device.

  3. Connect the other end of the cable directly to the RS-232 port on the Thiamis to the Node enclosure's DIN port.

E-BAM Electrical Connections

The standard E-BAM has a set of weatherproof connectors on the bottom of the unit. These connectors provide the connections for the power supply, external sensors and communications options. Each connector has a different pin configuration to prevent plugging cables into the wrong connector. The E-BAM will turn on when a power source is connected to the power input.

Note: There is a 3-color LED located on the bottom of the E-BAM near the electrical connectors. This LED may flash or hold various colors, but is used for factory test software applications only, and does not indicate any specific status information to the user.

The E-BAM chassis ground lug should be connected to an earth ground whenever possible, to reduce electrical noise in the unit.

As seen in the image below, connector ports going left to right and top to bottom:

  • EX-304 Wind Speed/Direction Sensor Input

  • DC Power Input (also relay output)

  • Temperature Sensor Input

  • RS-232 Comm Port (also analog output)

To the left of these ports is the Chassis Ground Lug.

Errors

If the E-BAM is not reporting, check the Thiamis configuration page for any listed Errors. Errors can be found in Sensor Configuration section of the Thiamis Configuration Page, and will be highlighted in RED.

Timeout Error

The EBAM has not responded to the requests made by the Thiamis and has timed out. It will continue to attempt communication but you can run through the general Troubleshooting Sensors steps to address common problems.
