Below are step-by-step instructions for setting up your Met One ES-642 dust monitor. For instructions on setting up your Thiamis, see Setting Up Your Thiamis. For general sensor setup and configuration, see How to Add & Configure Sensors in Environet.
Note: The images in this article show an older Thiamis, but the setup is the same for modern Thiamis devices. The only difference is that all USB-A ports have been replaced with USB-C ports on the modern devices.
Setup Instructions:
Connect power to the Thiamis, there are three options:
Connect a 12V power supply to the 3 pole Euroblock connector
Connect a 5V power supply to either of the USB ports
When using an Aethair Node Enclosure, connect to the Node's power port
Plug the DIN connector cable into the ES-642's serial port, on the bottom of the device.
Connect the other end of the cable directly to the RS-232 port on the Thiamis to the Node enclosure's DIN port.
Electrical Connections
The standard ES-642 has two weatherproof connectors on the bottom of the unit. These connectors provide the connections for the power supply, analog outputs, alarm outputs, and communications options. The ES-642 will turn on automatically whenever a power source is connected to the power input, there is no power switch. The ES-642 is supplied with two 10 foot long cables (80959, 80943). The user can cut these cables to any desired length. NOTE: Make sure you have cut any exposed wires, which are not being used, so that they can’t short together.
Because of the heater power required and to prevent any ground loops, it is recommended that a junction box be used to terminate the supplied cable. At this point larger AWG wires can be used for longer connections, or the power source can be located in this junction box. This will help to reduce any power lost in the heater power wires.

Errors
If the ES-642 is not reporting, check the Thiamis configuration page for any listed Errors. Errors can be found in Sensor Configuration section of the Thiamis Configuration Page, and will be highlighted in RED.
Timeout Error
The ES-642 has not responded to the requests made by the Thiamis and has timed out. It will continue to attempt communication but you can run through the general Troubleshooting Sensors steps to address common problems.
